Much of the past two years has been a holding pattern to me. Fans complained that we spent too much money on underperforming UFA and that was correct. The guys like Jagr and Shanahan, Straka and Nylander were and are short term solutions. Players like Shannahan and Straka were brought in for a dual purpose, their obvious offensive play, but equally and maybe more importantly has been their work ethic. Not just in games but in practice. I am sure that has had a major impact on the young players.

Having said all of that I think Renney's true measure as a coach is in the coming years when I think he will have a team comprised more of the type of players he likes.
