His ceiling is not that of a third pair d-man. Second pairing playing 20+ minutes a game with about 17 at ES. He definitely showed flashes of potential this year, you clearly didn't watch him.

Actually i did watch him. Im not bashing the guy I actually like Mcilrath. He showed some flashes in the AHL but i dont think he is close to being a reliable NHL regular YET. All i am saying is that he was a project and projects take longer. Point is maybe he does suprise and becomes a good d-man but there is also a good chance he wont make it. Right Now id say Allen is much more ready at least to be a 3rd pair d-man
