What people tend to miss or forget is that the deal wasn't as simple as getting someone that had the cap space to pony up as much as possible for Forsberg.

Forsberg had an NTC so he could block any deal he didn't like.

He obviously didn't say anything during the negotiations but the fact was that he had a list, a quite short one, of teams that he would waive it for.

He wanted a serious cup contender but also a team where he felt he could fit and contribute.

On top of that list was Nashville and Anaheim (or SJ possibly, can't remember).
