Toronto is predominantly an English speaking city, the NHL is a predominantly English speaking league, and Montreal is bilingual and I believe a majority speak English (that is what I have heard, I don't know the stats but bilingualism still applies), thus Koivu learning a second language which is the norm (English) shouldn't be an issue.

Vancouver has a major Asian and East Indian portion of the population, should a Captain learn their languages.

Using language as an a reasoning one should not be Captain is ridiculous. Should we start bringing in religion, maybe citizenship, maybe political affiliation.
