Timonen was a primary penalty killer on the third ranked PK in the league. There's a common misconception that he's one dimensional, an Ozolinsh type...when in fact his defense is underrated. He's not a "shut down" guy, but he's a heady player positionally and good with his stick. Reads the play well, blocks shots well, intercepts passes well, turns the puck back the other way well.
