While I am as suspicious as anyone whether Gonchar will be wearing the spoked B past 2005, it's more than evident he's here until then. Aside from the fact that they have among the fewest players in the league signed past this summer (only three roster players have contracts past 2004), you have to understand the Bruins to know when and where they put their money. They know they've been needing a #1 defenseman for years now, and they've seen the dreadful impact of not having one. Their transition, PP and overall attack has suffered. They would view this as a valuable addition, an investment. Hopefully, market forces will change in the future and the Bruins will feel much more comfortable about spending what it takes to keep Gonchar in the fold long term...
