One would think with the Rangers missing the playoffs for 4 straight years, that there would be ONE blue chip prospect around. Instead we have Tyutin (don't quite know if he's "blue-chip" or not) and Jessiman, who is a HUGE project. Jessiman won't pay dividends for another 4 years, as power forwards take much longer to develop (look at Bertuzzi, Prims, and Doan for proof).
Now half of our trades have netted us more 3rd liners.
We really haven't had a good set of 3rd/4th liners in years, it's a step in the right direction. I believe that Sather is setting up for a blue-chipper (1st or 2nd overall pick) at the draft. I find it hard to believe that any of our players (Kovy, Nedved, Leetch, Simon) are worth a blue-chipper, maybe Leetch because he's top 5 defencemen with another year left on his contract. I also think that Jessiman, Lundmark, Tyutin, or Blackburn could be packaged (with out current 1sts) for two picks in the first 5 positions in the draft.
