In NHL2k7 I'd say 90+ is elite forward/defenseman/goalie, 89-80 is top six forwards/#1-4 defenseman/starting goalies or great backup goalies, 79-72 is 3rd and 4th line/3rd pairing defenseman/mediocre backup or good goalie prospect.

I've never played the games from EA so I don't know if its better but the overall ratings for players in 2k7 don't matter much. They have a separate offense and defense rating. Niklas Kronwall I remember in 2k7 was like a 78 and his offense and defense rating were both in the low 80s while there were some d-men that had overall ratings of 80+ with like 82 offense and 76 defense. The only use of the overall rating that I can see is probably determining a player's trade value. Personally I would say its pretty realistic since having great chemistry can boost some stats by up to 20 but leave stats like shot quickness/power unchanged.

Well the best rated in 2k7 I believe was Lidstrom.
