Although the Rangers arent my team, I do like them, and I do follow them to a certain degree.
Sather has made his share of mistakes that is for certain. Yet I can't agree with him being fired.
He was universally held, as the best GM in hockey for quite sometime. And the Rangers had the exact same problems before he got there.
Sather was unable to turn around the ship, but how much of this was ownerships fault (Ithink I read somewhere that Sather wanted to do a true housecleaning/rebuilding, awhile ago)?
The trades he has made during the housecleaning going on right now, look to be good. Your once bare prospect system is starting to lean towards a legitimate strength, and after this years draft, you will have even more quality youth, due to the deals he has made.
Maybe it is all a smoke screen and he WAS allowed to do what he wanted. But if there is some truth to what he has said, then I believe, if given the opportunity to rebuild, he can do it correctly to some degree.
I think what hurt him alot, was the statement he made while still in EDM. Something to the affect of "if I had the payroll that New York has, then I would be able to win the cup every year".
If your team indeed drafts 4 or 5, you could get a guy like Barker, who will REALLY be quite a stud in a few years.
Oh well, what do I know though....I am a Pens fan!
