How Good Is Philadelphia's Defense?

Malakhov - Desjardins
Johnsson - Markov
Pikanen - Ragnarsson
Timmander
(Seidenberg)

Three great #2 defensemen in Desjardins, Markov and Johnsson. A solid #3 defenseman in Ragnarsson and the megatalented Pitkanen. Great depth with guys like Timmander and Seidenberg willing to step in at any time. Malakhov is a mystery to me. However i am ecstatic that the Flyers made this trade. Malakhov, an enigma that has all the talent in the world locked up inside of him and when he is motivated he can play at top of the world as good as your Lidstroms and Neidermayers come playoff time. Imo Malakhov is very similar to Neidermayer when they both play well. Hopefully he doesn't disappoint. How good is Philly's defense now? Are they excellent or what? How does the Flyers' defense in comparison to Detroit's defense? Colorado's? New Jersey's? Vancouver's? Calgary's? Ottawa's?

Remember, Hitchcock is coach and the team's 3rd and 4th line centers are Handzus and Primeau. Just to thow that out there.

When healthy i think the defense will be set as follows:

Markov - Desjardins
Malakhov - Johnsson
Pitkanen - Ragnarsson

Timander
Seidenberg

Also Handzus is the 2nd line center.

My best guess for the lines come playoff time:

Roenick - Zhamnov - Amonte
LeClair - Handzus - Recchi
Gagne - Primeau - Kapanen
Brashear - Lapointe - Somik/Radivojevic

Sharp, Somik/Radivojevic, Fedoruk

Malakhov sure leads a charmed life.

Underachieve for your entire career.

Go skiing when you are supposed to be out injured (Montreal).

Get signed to a very handsome contract (by NYR) despite the above.

...And twice get traded at the deadline to serious Cup contenders (Devils, now Philly).

:p

Roenick as 1st line LW? I can't see that happening. I think they'll try to build a line around JR.

Unless Clarke makes a trade:

Gagne-Zhamnov-Amonte
LeClair-Handzus-Recchi
Kapanen/LaPointe-Roenick-Radivojevic
Brashear-Primeau-Kapanen/LaPointe
