Eklund: "Preds on the verge of a substantial trade"

I'm almost afraid to ask. "Two players off the current roster"

I know it's Eklund, but this makes me nervous.

Well...Ekund does have pretty decent sources in Nashville

Plus isn't he in Nashville right now? I know he was at the ticket rally thing.

Ugh.

Substantial indicates that its not the Tootoos and Fiddlers of the team.

I have a feeling it will involve either Dumont or Legwand (not that I want it to..)

And hopefully Weber or Radulov aren't traded. I could see Poile moving Hamhuis though (again, not that I want that).

Oooooooooooooohhhhhhhhh babbbbbby! I love off-season drama, even if it scares the crap out of me!

Big Players I could feasibly see moving:

Zidlicky (we need a lot of salary coming back though)
Hamhuis (only if we believe Suter has surpassed him........I would not include Dan for virtually any reason because of his sweet deal).
Legwand (1 year away from FA, but he fits out team so perfectly)
Erat (Is his value at an all time high? There is no question that he has loads of talent and is slowly piecing it together....)

I still would guess its Klein plus a forward like Tootoo.

Anyone think Sullivan could be the one moved?

No. I really really doubt that. I can't see Sullivan moving unless something similar to what happened to Walker occurs. His contract is perfect, and he fits our team too well.

I wonder if the Ducks matching will allow us to take advantage of their situation (similar to how we acquired Markov for a third round pick).

No trade. False alarm, I guess.

I believe so, even with the Gelinas signing and all RFAs signed they need about 2 million or so to get above the salary floor. It need not be substantial, maybe something similar to Washington taking Friesen off NJ's hands for the sake of getting above that salary floor. I certainly hope it's something substantial though.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but...I'm pretty sure that Zidlicky has a NTC.

IMO, NTC or not, we cannot trade Zids now that Kimo is gone. We need his veteranship and someone who has some offense. Yea he had a sub par season in 07 but I think we have to take the risk. Unless of course we get back a veteran offensive dman in return...

Right Handed Point Shot - Check
Plays Defense - Check
Can Score Goals from the Blue Line - Check
Isn't smallish stature-wise - Check
Shea Weber - Check

Absolutely, a non-starter IMO. Morrison and Cooke IMO are a downgrade from Arnott and Dumont and Krajicek, although a promising young defenseman with several years of experience under his belt already...is not going to address any need for our club and would in fact only further create a logjam on defense as we already have eight defensemen signed to one-way deals this season.

Yeah I fully expect Weber to replace Kimo's spot, but that leaves us with Suter as the next offensive threat. And honestly I trust Zids in the Offense department more than him. Now if you wanna talk about his defensive skills...well I can't defend Marek there..

No way. Cooke wouldn't be a replacement on one of the top two line spots now. We have enough young defensemen. And I can't see us giving up two parts of a line.

Too much of a NHL 08 trade.

JP Dumont* and Weber

for

Torres, Pitkanen and a 1st?

*Trade only works if Dumont signs an extension, if not then remove Dumont and Torres.

Thoughts? If you need more salary we can add to it.

No. We need and would rather have Weber than Pitkanen, I'd MUCH rather have Dumont than Torres...and the only first you guys have if the Penner deal goes through is Anaheim's, which is likely a bottom ten pick.

I never cease to be amazed at the litany of ridiculous trade proposals that I see around here....my 9 yr old comes up with more feasible ones than some of the jokes that I see wafting through here....
