Vezinas and awards

If the Rangers have at least a 40 win season is it reasonable to think Henny will be in the running for a Vezina?

Who else can we realistically expect to compete for awards this year?

AS another thread states: Jagr for the ross?

Or Staal for calder???

Jagr for the Richard??

Maybe even Drury for a Selke?!?!?!

thoughts anyone?...

lundqvist has been a finalist for the vezina in both of his seasons in the league, so its definitely not a stretch to assume that he'll be right in the mix again.

jagr is probably the only guy that could challenge for the art ross and rocket richard...drury is a candidate for the selke each year.

staal could be a contender for the calder, but he won't put up enough points to get real consideration imo.

The reason i mention Staal is if they're good enough young defencemen can be considered... Barrett Jackman wont it as a defensive specialist. If he maeks the team from camp i think he has a chance.

but jackman also lucked out that there was no major offensive star that year and when no one stood out offensively that made him standout for his defensive play. right or wrong people tend to look at stats first. so if someone like toews steps in and puts up big numbers offensively that makes it really tough for staal to get the attention he might deserve...really depends on how strong the rookie class is.

If the Rangers have an exceptional season, consider Renney for the Adams.

No Rangers coach has ever won it.

A very good point!! Ithink he has an excellent chance if the season goes according to plan!!! Hasnt Lindy ruff won it 2 years on the bounce? I think Renney has an excellent chance at that award.

Here's a brave one, how about Lundqvist and Valliquette for the William jennings trophy?!?!?

This thread basically tells me that most of you think a Ranger could win any award this season. Or all the awards! I guess it's conceivable, but you could say that for nearly any good team. I think you'll see Henrik vie for the Vezina, and Jagr maybe for a scoring title. Not sure about the rest really.

Rangers Season will be over 40 wins. Guaranteed.

49-33 IMO or 52-30 or one more possibility 44-38 (unlikely)

They ended last year 42-30-10 with a worse team.

An injured Shanahan, A annoyed Jagr in the first half, barely anyone who can be called a second line center, a HORRIBLE first half, the bringing up of Callahan and the Avery pickup and we went what was it 13-3-4?

I wouldn't much be worried about our teams record. Playoff spot and a 40-45+ win 90+points is not anywhere near out of the ordinary for this lineup.

Barring a disaster this should be a safe guarantee!

With allt he talent on this team, 40 wins should be a minimum. i dont think thats over confidence or arrogance to say that but thats the expectancy when you go out and get two great centers to compliment an already good side. This team can (maybe won't) but can break 50 this year...

lets hope so!!!

I agree with you... I just hate 'guarantees' 2+ months before the season starts.

If Lundqvist can maintain his play over the whole season he will be a front runner for the award. I don't think Kiprusoff can challange him. Brodeur showed that he can't play as much as he did last season and then go in to the playoffs. It's Henrik and Luongo who will battle for the vezina next season.

I think another goalie will be in the mix this year. I agree Kipper might not be, i think Keenan will turn that time into a disaster but a goalie usually comes out of nowhere to have a great year, like Backstrom last year.

i hate to admit it but if the ISles can put a competitive defence on the ice (getting rid of Poti helps!!!) then Di Pietro has a chance. He came on leaps and bounds last yr and in that 2 game series late on against us he was immense.

Brodeur will have to be in it again for Devils to be anywhere near the playoffs. I think Nabakov will have a great year if he gets the job out right as expected.

Go the King!!!
