Today is the day for his arbitration....

Laich the first player to go to arbitration just received $725,000. Last season he had 8 goals and 10 assists in 73 games. Last season he made $625,000.

Miettinen in 74 games had 11 goals and 14 assists for 25 points and made $450,000.

Just hope he doesn't get too big of a raise. But if it's only $550,000 Ill be ok with it.

I doubt he will, but if he gets a million or over I may have to kill myself.

Only Armstrong can't walk away it's under $1.7 million.

Miettinen will probably end up getting $750,000.

He'll get more than Laich.

There's nothing wrong with Miettinen. He's just not more than a checker in the NHL much like Lind before him. Management thought they could get more out of him and they were wrong. It's not his fault.

How long will it take before we find out how much he was awarded?

The arbitrator has asked for more time to make a decision on Antti Miettinen's salary. The link to Mike Heika's blog is below for all of the info:

I thought that this was the most interesting thing that Mike Heika said:

Quote:
Can [Antti Miettinen] play right wing in the top six? If he can, the Stars could move Loui Eriksson to left side (his natural side) and play Miettinen with Ribiero and Morrow. Or, they could push Stu Barnes into that role and play Miettinen on the Halpern line.
I guess they could also put together a Hagman-Jokinen-Miettinen fourth line, but it seems they have the fourth line drawn up for the bangers.
Why would you try and crowbar this guy into the top 6? Also, why would you want to dismantle a really good line, Lundqvist-Halpern-Barnes, to try and find a place for forward that has been given ample opportunities to produce but hasn't proven anything? This guy was benched for the final three games of the playoffs. Heika also mentioned that he could be moved in a trade, and I hope that it occurs. The Stars gave up on Niko Kapanen last year. It's time to do the same with Miettinen.

If Dallas can't give Mittens the stability he needs in order to be consistant then we might as well trade him for a prospect winger or somesuch. But to Antti's credit, few players on the Stars were shuffled around more than him.

Still what does that have to do with his slow release on shots and inability to hit the net on his shots?

He needs to aim about 5 feet away from the nets to get em on net. His slow release is another issue.

Thank God the Stars didn't have to go through this with Ribeiro. What would the arbitritor would have given him?

Ribeiro --> $3.5 -$4 million

It's not his fault, but it does make him disposable. He isn't much different and certainly isn't any better than a number of guys also signed to one-way deals.

He's definitely expendable, but he's not worthless. He's a solid depth guy, nothing more. It's not his fault management tried too hard to push him as a scorer. But if a team wants him, there's no reason not to trade him to free up room on the roster.
