I thought that this was the most interesting thing that Mike Heika said:
Can [Antti Miettinen] play right wing in the top six? If he can, the Stars could move Loui Eriksson to left side (his natural side) and play Miettinen with Ribiero and Morrow. Or, they could push Stu Barnes into that role and play Miettinen on the Halpern line.
I guess they could also put together a Hagman-Jokinen-Miettinen fourth line, but it seems they have the fourth line drawn up for the bangers.
Why would you try and crowbar this guy into the top 6? Also, why would you want to dismantle a really good line, Lundqvist-Halpern-Barnes, to try and find a place for forward that has been given ample opportunities to produce but hasn't proven anything? This guy was benched for the final three games of the playoffs. Heika also mentioned that he could be moved in a trade, and I hope that it occurs. The Stars gave up on Niko Kapanen last year. It's time to do the same with Miettinen.
If Dallas can't give Mittens the stability he needs in order to be consistant then we might as well trade him for a prospect winger or somesuch. But to Antti's credit, few players on the Stars were shuffled around more than him.
He's definitely expendable, but he's not worthless. He's a solid depth guy, nothing more. It's not his fault management tried too hard to push him as a scorer. But if a team wants him, there's no reason not to trade him to free up room on the roster.
