I dont think theyre dumb signings yet. We needed a veteran star defenseman and got him short term. Thats easily a smart signing.
Bert is eager to play again and will do just fine for Burke and Carlyle. He will fit the Ducks style of hockey perfectly. He may turn out to be a bargain. Burke's a very smart and saavy manager. I trust his decision.
Getz will be signed to the Ducks next season. No doubt about that.

Burtuzzi is a risk to be sure, but a healthy Bertuzzi is a steal at $4M/yr (and I hate the guy and I am saying that, I am not sure how I am going to stomach cheering for him this year). The big question is: is he healthy? Burke and his scouts obviously think he is and he looked healthy in the playoffs this year.

You get offered 21 million dollars, you take it! I could live in Edmonton for 5 years for that. And I'd be willing (not that it's gonna be true) to play for a loser for that much too! Guaranteed 21 million dollars...
That being said, Penner was the most expendable of he Perry and Getzlaf. Let him go Burke... just let him goooooo (said in a ghostly scrooge way)

If every GM started paying 4.3M per for one dimensional, floating complimentary players not many of them would still have a job.
