The last time i saw Sundin hit a guy was like three seasons ago (this doesnt count people running into him and then falling, ie Roberts) Thornton is by far the more intense grittier player. Now onto other things. Thornton is a better play maker, he ranks right at the top of the league for his play making abilities. Im not a raging homer bruins fan. i think you would find most unbiased fans would agree on these points. i would give Sundin the more Clutch player and probably a better goal scoring ability. other than that i say Joe takes it. but this is just my opinion and obviously will not be agreed with on this board.
First off... if you look at sundins numbers over the past few seasons he's had more assists then goals, and this for someone who likes to shoot the puck. Sundin is a pretty damn big, and hits just not that much. He's not a tough player until he needs to be... which i'm happy with means he'll last longer unlike thornton. Sundin has silky smooth passes, i'm not sure who you've been watching but it hasn't been good ol' mats!

He said for right now, so Age and Future Potential have nothing to do with it.

Well they're both big, strong, point per game centremen. I'd take either one on my team anyday. Thornton obviously is younger, and I'd give him the edge in physical aggressiveness as well. Not so say Sundin isn't physical, he's one of the hardest players to knock off the puck in the entire league, but he isn't as much of an initiator as Thornton. You could give the edge to Thornton in playmaking as well, he makes great passes and sees the ice extremely well. I would say Sundin is a much more well-rounded player though. Better defensively, better goalscorer, a veteran leader, and just overall more intelligent player. Of course with Thornton's age there's no reason why he can't get better as time goes on.

Overall I think at this point I take Sundin ever so slightly. Both are tremendous players though and I wouldnt be upset with either one.
