Have you ever tried Priceline or Hotwire? I got the Sheraton (Society Hill) for something ridiculous like $65/night. No guarantees on the specific hotel but the location is your choice. The SEPTA takes you right near the stadium complex, too.

sorry to but in

My wife and I are also visiting Philly next week for the first time ever. My wife is a Flyers fan so we are going to be keeping a lookout for any Flyers gear, but we are also going to do the touristy stuff - Liberty Bell, King Tut, CheeseSteak, Art Museum, etc.

But I also have a couple of other questions:

1. Are there any malls or areas of the city that we should avoid?

2. Where can I find a good comic book shop?

3. Would I get my butt kicked walking around in a Sabres jersey?

thanks

1. North, West, and South of Center City can get sketchy quickly... I have very little to say about malls.

2. No idea... there is one somewhere in Center City I stopped in when a friend was getting something, but couldn't tell you exactly where it is.

3. No, probably not... I also am not sure I'd really want to wear a hockey jersey in August humidity/heat, but that's just me.

1. Stay in Center City (between South and Vine and the rivers).
2. South St between 6th and 7th. 14th and Chestnut.
3. Doubtful.

Univ. City out by Penn/Drexel is fine... but there isn't really any compelling reason to go there unless you want to see the campuses.

If you want a mall and can get out to King of Prussia, that's the one I'd hit. You'd need a car though, dunno how you're planning to get around town.

Also, you have to go to Lorenzo's. Their pizza is simply amazing.
Geno's was good, but I prefer the bun at Jim's Steaks on South Street. Went to Philly for the first time this year with my hockey team and had a blast!

If you have a car go up 95 to Chink's in NE philly. Its an OK area and one of the best steaks around.

Lorenzo's on south street for pizza. Definitely.

Now way, Jim's is overrated and Geno's has the best roll, hands down!

I agree on Jim's being over rated. However...

Bun/Roll - Rick's
Cheese - Geno's
Meat - Chinks

I think Tony Luke's has the most consitantly good cheesesteaks. I have never had one that wasn't too good there, but I have at other places.

I still say Geno's has the best roll!
