Why can Crosby be re-signed but Getzlaf can't?

They are not sure how much they have. There are a lot of If's in Anaheim right now to do it. Plus, if you can pay him the 650k or something like that for 3/4 of season then re-sign him later in the season for a Long term deal, you might as well, and save about 3 or more mil in the process!

It all depends what Getz wants.....If he wants to play in Anahiem I don't see a problems getting him signed.

BUT.....If they don't get him locked up early & he has a steller year, Getz could be one of the HIGHER coveted RFA's of next years crop & could attract offers similar to what Klowe sent Vaneks way. If the Penner move turns out good for the Oil, you can be sure other GM's will QUICKLY follow suit if they have the pieces in place to make such an offer & Getz could end up waving byw Bye Bye Orange County, seeing as IMO he's on his way to becoming a superstar in the NHL

The way that HFBoards thinks offer sheets are going to be thrown around, it sounds like we could get ourselves up to 6 #1 draft picks by letting Getzlaf and Perry go next year.

Hey everyone...very, very few teams are going to try and sign RFA's. The price is outrageous (the picks) compared to signing a UFA (no picks). RFA signing is a last ditch effort (see Edmonton). Most teams will not want to sacrifice 3 #1 picks for an upper tier RFA. We may see a few in Penner's range or lower where the compensation isn't as outrageous.

Caps would match at max for Ovechkin if need be....if getzlaf has a season here and gets 90 points you can expect him to demand a contract north of 6 mil.......even though Burke made a point of not signing Penner for the somewhat inflated 4+ you can bet Getzlaf took note that people are willing to offer big amounts.

I don't think his point is that we'll offer for Ovechkin, it's that Ovechkin, Phaneuf, Wolski, Pitkanen, Weber, etc. also being RFA might protect us from a Getzlaf offer sheet.

Or if that's not what he meant... it's my point now.
