Crosby because hockey is a much tougher sport to play than basketball. Some will disagree but i think that to be the best in hockey you have to be a more complete athlete than in basketball.

Everyone on this board is a hockey fan. What are the chances that we will go thru this poll without at least 20 biased answers? In the sports world, if you went on any other sports board you'd see Lebron take this in a landslide. Us being hockey fans, obviously a lot of people are going to pick Crosby. Let's not forget that Lebron pretty much single-handedly led his team thru the playoffs this past season. Oh and who's more now?

lebron's a bigger star and is more popular, but crosby is more dominant in his respective sport.

That sums it up for me too.

LBJ isn't even the best player in the NBA right now (Kobe Bryant is). Crosby is far and away the best player in the NHL right now. I also think Crosby will ultimately have a better career too, simply because he's going to be surrounded by great players for a long time. Clevland needs to bring in a much better supporting cast if they want any shot at winning a championship.

They're both up there with the most dominant in their respective leagues, but Lebron James brought his team all the way to the NBA Finals. It has to be Lebron for me

It's a poll on a message board. I'm not looking to base a thesis on it.

I realize there will be uninformed opinions adding to the results.

Lebron's 3 years older than Crosby and he's not as dominant in his respective sport. Crosby was voted as the MVP by the writers and the best player by his fellow players as a 19-year-old. Lebron was a rookie at 19 and wasn't even close to being the best player in the game at that time. It's arguable that there are a number of players that are better or just as good as Lebron even now, whereas it's pretty much consensus that Crosby is the best player in the NHL after having played only 2 seasons. Lebron has a deep playoff run to add to his resume, but the question is who is a better phenom (he's also had one more year in his league than Crosby--let's see how deep the Penguins go this year). Crosby is clearly superior, in my opinion. As the years pass, it will only become more obvious.

It's more than just arguable, it's pretty much fact. LeBron isn't as good of a basketball player as Kobe Bryant, and Duncan.

The thing is, if you put this poll on ESPN Lebron would probably get 85% of the vote. If ESPN pimped Crosby as much as they did Lebron, the NHL would be in much better shape. But we can thank Bettman for that! The commentators for Larry's Lumberjack Logjam might mention Crosby's name during the off-time between the Log Roll and the Wife Toss, though, so I guess it does kind of even out.

I say this with as little hockey bias as I can, but Crosby is way ahead of Lebron. He's quite a bit younger, already has won several trophies, and is considered by most to be the best player in the NHL right now, and he will only get better. Not to mention that Crosby plays in a much tougher league, and is more dominant. If hockey got nearly as much attention as basketball does, Crosby might be the most popular athlete in the world right now.

You aren't going to get a fair response here. Personally, I believe the only thing Lebron has on Sid is team success and that was in a weak east in a sport that can be controlled by one player to a much higher degree than hockey. If Sid was on the ice for approx 1/5 of all players ice time he'd control the game much more. But the difference in games makes that impossible.

"The world" is a pretty big area (duh). I think people like Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo would have a lot to say about that. They're way more popular than Lebron James, I can guarantee you that. But if the NHL had just as big a profile as the other professional North American sports, he probably would be the most popular athlete in North America.

VERY good point, this is really the way I look at and also the reason I picked Lebron. ESPN hates hockey and we never hear about Crosby as much as we do Lebron obviously. I guess with ESPN being too biased it's go to me a little.
