I'd assume it's just somebody to fill the holes while the rest of the season plays out...although I couldn't help but yell "WHY!" at my TSN.ca trade tracker when I first noticed it.
Hmmm...wonder if you guys might draft the *other* Mike Green- the most excellent offensive defenseman out of Saskatoon in this year's draft???
I like his game, not just offensive, he's pretty nasty in his own end as well. I think we'd have to move up with Toronto's pick to get him, cause we won't take him in the top ten, most likely, and the Toronto pick he'll most likely be gone by then.
Weird. I never had a problem with Sandy. After watching Simon for almost a full season, I honestly didn't see THAT big a difference. Put McCarthy with Messier and I'm willing to be he makes a similar on ice contribution.
Looks like Sather is picking up all the trash on the waiver wire today that Washington is passing over... but I guess we need some "warm bodies" to fill roster spots for the rest of the season.

MJ- I think the biggest difference between them was McCarthy's talk vs Simon's action..
Simon didn't hesitate to play his role, and McCarthy seemed all to willing to let others do his job for him..
But I agree.. Warm bodies were needed, and Hartford should keep some of its core together now, for their post season, and more importantly to have a group of guys come in next year that are used to playing together during a postseason..

I don't really want to start the argument again, but the quality of Simon's job as "enforcer" is highly debateable. He was good for getting into a scrum, but who isn't? When it came time to throw down, Barnaby was the guy doing the dirty work too often. Matty shouldn't have to fight Brashear when there's a supposed "enforcer" on the team.
Personally though, I liked the way Simon was used. He got minutes, skated with quality linemates and chipped in a good amount of offense. Use McCarthy in the same manner and I think everyone would be pleasantly surprised.
