Just what I need before I go to bed, another eklund rumor.

Good thing I'm drinking a Brioschi for a night cap.

Unless a team makes us an offer we cant refuse, Montoya is Staying put. I really dont think he will be traded until the King gets his extension. Monty is our insurance policy from poachers.

All Eklund Rumors Here

Robert Esche (NY Rangers, San Jose, Anaheim)

http://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog.php?post_id=8875

he is only 29 and is an upgrade over Vally, not a big upgrade but still an upgrade. Id take him only if 2 years at most. He can play 10-15 games. He is from Whitesboro, NY. I know its a rumor site but i can see it happening

all it says is that the Rangers are a potential destination for Esche. If you look closely, there is another backup goalie that has the Rangers as a potential destination. If you think about it, it makes sense. If these guys want to make the minimum in New York, I would be comfortable with them here than Valiquette. However, I feel it is unlikely that they are interested in playing 10-20 games this year.

no way I want Burke, he is over 40 and too old, only over 40 goalie id take is Hasek. Id rather have Esche over Burke as the backup.

I does not say Esche to the NYR. It is speculation or a mere rumor.

I have edited the title of this thread.

honestly, i don't care how old he is. if you want to judge players on age, then shanahan doesn't belong on the team.

if he is an improvement over what we have, it makes sense. the question is, is he an improvement?

Renney said at fan fest (I believe) that he planned on using Valley as the back up goalie. I would not be shocked if Sean Burke was signed though because he and Benoit Allaire have a great relationship from his tenure in Phoenix.

He's ready. I just think the NYR braintrust feel he's better off playing everyday in Hartford.

i dont think Esche would be that bad as a backup but it depends on how much he will cost and if he can deal with going from the number one goalie on a team to playing behind one of the best goalies in the league

Well that, and the fact that he costs too much against the cap.

More Eklund?????

Could this guy create 5 rumors without mentioning the Rangers once?

Highly doubt it.

I wish there was a way to ignore any post or thread with the word Eklund in it.

Though I don't think we can or will fit him in, I would have no probelem with Esche as a Back-up for The King if we could fit him under the cap. I have no faith whatsoever in Valliquette and I think Montoya needs afull year in Hartford to work on his game, his inconsistencies and his brain farts...

If no one has signed him by now, Esche should be happy that an NHL team is even interested in him. If he wants to play in the NHL next year, the team will dictate his role, and if he doesn't like it he can go home.

Esche's numbers last year were pretty bad... unless we can get him for the same price as Val there's no reason to do this.

Future...

it's more along the lines of would Esche be an effective backup. There are guys who are well-suited for 15-20 games per season - often those guys are guys who are young, up-and-comers (like a Montoya). Some guys are more effective keeping more active. I think Weekes would've been better playing in 50 games instead of 20 games.

I personally do not currently know the answer. I gotta figure that if there isn't a trade brewing that Montoya would be in the mix somehow.

I think vally did a fine job being a back up in the limited time he got.

On Esche, stay far,far away

He moaned in Philly of how he (legitimately) lost his starting job to Nitty, and IMO is far too inconsistent to be a good backup
