After a QUICK glance on the 07-08 free agent list....

And this might not be updated, so, if people got extentions, dont crucify me...

Looks like Iginla will be open, and Naslund if we were targetting an LW with playoff experience...

Spezza... Heatley's been discussed

anyhow, there you go

I'm pretty sure they are already working on an extension for Iginla.

Looks like you have no business getting into a grammatical war with anyone.

Anyway.

Marian Hossa isn't the answer.

The reason the Rangers traded for Jagr to begin with is because they needed a legitimate star and got him cheap. He is a great player and a marketable one. They are lucky because Jagr has risen to the occasion in a very difficult environment to do so for a player with his history. Plus he has become more of a leader (captain) then they have expected.

Therefore you aren't replacing him with a guy like Hossa who has little leadership qualities.

Furthermore, Drury and Gomez were both signed and they have those leadership qualities. Lundqvist as well. All are marketable.

The Rangers need to continue to develop their youth and build a supporting cast around what they have going forward longterm, I agree with Singn on this one.

If an opportunity presents itself for a top flight first line winger so be it but I wouldnt go after Hossa 150%. Signing Hossa is one thing, straight up replacing Jagr isn't happening. Very few players are in that category and Hossa is a notch below IMO.

Really? Hossa is a MUCH better 2 way player and he puts up more pts than Ilya. Ilya is a better goal scorer, but Hossa is better at everything else.

For all of those that are underrating Hossa so much, he has had more points than Jagr in 3 out of the last 4 seasons.

otter...

the real issue is there's only a 20% chance of that...

What is this thread about again? If Jagr is still a Ranger, there's about a zero percent chance of that happening. If Jagr is not a Ranger, then other things would have to happen for that to occur. Too early to talk about next season's targets since at this point, we're not 100% sure what the Rangers will need next season; future stars may emerge in certain positions.

Kovalchuk is just so cool!
Go for him
Personal preference, Marian is a good hockey player but lacks the it factor.

Personally I'd rather them go after Gaborik when he becomes a FA, or trade for him or something. He's going to command $$$ but he's got a load of skill and he's very young.

If not Gaborik I'd like to see Semin on the rangers...he's not a top flight talent but I feel eventually he will be up there.

its true it could be a problem if we get him and go into the playoffs and he does awefull. Also he looks like the evil hossa. For some reason i dont think him and our hossa have a very good relationship.
him and his brother do have the same goal celebration though

Pass. I'd rather have Ilya. And I'd rather have quite a few others before Ilya too.

I understand not wanting to sign this guy because you're afraid of cap issues, but I don't understand shying away from a TOP 10 NHL TALENT because you don't "like him".
