I've always liked Grier, but he's a high-priced 3rd liner at $1.63 mil. I wonder if the Sabres will even give him a qualifying offer? Apparantly Klepsis' stock has really dropped.

So Grier for Varada, I'd do that trade.

Sabres also gave up a 5th rounder in the Varada deal. Who knows, it could be the next Ryan Miller.

Regier was hot after him at the draft in Toronto. Mike said he thought he'd be in Buffalo that day and was disappointed when the Oil backed away from the roster player Buffalo offered (Rassy).

He's a bit expensive for what he does. I wonder if he'd take a little less to play in a less expensive market...

You guys will like Grier. He's fast as heck, hits like a linebacker, and he works his butt off. He's a great PKer.

You'll especially like him next season, for some reason he'll score 20 goals every other year and 10 goals every other year. You'll love him one year, and be frustrated the next, but at least he's consistent. I think at a shade over 1.5 million, he's priced very fair for what he does.

Good luck catching the Islanders

I remember watching him at BU and the guy was one man wrecking crew. I was praying the Sabres would draft him. He's still a force if his shoulders hold up.

Mair is also younger and more physical.

Darcy doesn't deserve any bows.He has done a below average job.Gee,Satan wants out as more reports have said and you keep him here. That will make him happy.

Damn how can you still *****? What if all the offers for Satan was like 2nd rounders and some crappy propect. Personally I would rather have Satan then some crapshot draft pick when we are trying to make the playoffs. (ya i said it playoffs) I still have faith in this team and im glad to see Darcy has faith to. It had been so frusturating thinking we were going to rip the team apart once again. Darcy kept our big players, added a projected top 4 defense, and Brown a good physcial number 6 d while getting rid of Delmore. Sure its no Lang but for a small market team the guy addressed our needs. People complained we were to small up front...We trade Cubro and get a big physical player in Grier (pretty much the same salary)...D not strong enough he got Brown,.. Soupy is a peice of garbage..he got Jilson who could be one of our top d for a long time.

So I have to say good job Darcy! You might have waited to long but I think you got good value and you probably gave the players some confidence for not ripping them apart

all in all

we got:

Grier
Jillson
Brown

gave up

Cubro
Delmore
Klepis
4th rounder

looks good to me

Oh, and DanielBriere48...

To Darcy,

Regier did what was necessary, a shake up and filling holes without giving up on the season or giving up too much future talent.

The deadline is when Darcy shines, yet again.

So Darcy is only supposed to only trade on the deadline?A GM should try to improve his club all season, not just before the deadline. He got good value but he took sooooooo long.

Does anybody know if signablity was going to be a problem with Klepis? I had heard that mentioned at some point a few months ago.

Why eSabre, didn't you say you never wanted Grier on the Sabres? :p

I never suggested he wasn't. I meant that Klepis wasn't interested in coming to North America.

I was reading that Grier and Drury used to be teamates back in Boston U. I wonder how they would do together. Maybe Drop Kotalik and try Grier up on that line?

Grier Drury Satan

Grier doesn't fight, or more accurately he can't fight. The guy was ko'd by Jarkko Ruutu last season. He's probably the most physical, least penalized player in the league. Grier would be Lady Byng material if he didn't play so physical and have to defend himself.
