Cookie can still instigate, of course he can also play hockey.

I don't believe there should be a role for two guys on a team who have no skillset , I can understand the need for an enforcer.. there should be no need for an agitator who only causes mayhem.

The organization doesn't tell Jarkko to play that way. He can't play any other way.

I though they called that old time, hardnosed, gritty hockey...

there is nothing hardnosed and gritty about Jarkko

cheap and cowardly perhaps

hardnosed and gritty would have desribed Bertuzzi until about 72 hours ago

You're right, I guess it isn't really hardnosed, but like a previous poster mentioned the agitator is an accepted role in the NHL. Every team would love to have one. I'm pretty sure that Sutter loves the way Jarko plays, so how can you fault the player when you know the coach is pushing for that style of play?

Rob Blake decided to take on a guy significantly smaller than him, and somehow ended up getting hurt teaching the "little punk" a lesson. It's sort of ironic, I think.

That said, people critisize Blake for fighting Ruutu, if I were an Avs fan, I'd applaud him. Yeah, it looks like he MAY have gotten hurt (its speculation at this point), but what you have here is a leader stepping up and showing the team what to do if they have a problem with someone.

95% of the time Blake wipes the ice with Ruutu, takes away the momentum of the team, and maybe teaches the agitator to not mess aroud with Blake's team.

I call that leading by example. A leader needs to adapt to all situations in my view, and that was an excellent opportunity for Blake to do so.

Sutter may love the style Jarkko plays.. since he doesn't coach him your point is lost on me completely.

Cooke can play the instigator/agitator role but he doesn't because Ruutu does. As for Ruutu, he can play a different game but he has relized why he is still with the Canucks, and that's to get under the skin of the opposing team.
