40 Points for Potulny: THN

THN Ultimate pool guide projects Potulny to finish with 21g and 19a.

"On the ice he looks and acts like he's the league's leading scorer. Now he has to translate that talent and confidence into point production. Look for him to progress." - THN

I like him, but I have a tough time believing that he'll get that many games played and enough ice time to do that. He is the only second year Flyer or rookie to make their points prediction list...which seems to be cut off at 25 points.

Any thoughts on this? The points seem inflated, but it is The Hockey News.....?

i don't think Potulny will play enough games with the Flyers to reach those totals... not sure what they're saying.

If one of Carter or Briere has a long-term injury, it is possible. Other than that, I doubt he'll see enough ice time to put up those numbers.

If Umberger's on the 4th, it's almost certainly not as a wing. If they're moving him to wing, it'd be on the 3rd line with Richards.

Potulny might not even make the team.

And he shouldn't at this stage in his career he should be getting as much playing time as possible, and thats with the Phantoms.

He won't get nearly enough TOI to even put up 30 points. On another team, he could easily hit 40 points but the Flyers are deep at C this year, and actually have solid roles for those invovled (Richards can focus on being a checking center). Potulny and Umberger will give some scoring depth, but they won't get the chances to be regular contributors unless there is an injury top the top six.

THN Ultimate pool guide Predicts:

Briere - 92 (32g 60a)
Gagne - 77 (45g 32a)
Knuble - 65 (33g 32a)
Carter - 57 (26g 31a)
Timonen - 52 (12g 40a)
Hartnell - 49 (25g 24a)
Richards - 45 (20g 25a)
Lupul - 41 (23g 18a)
Potulny - 40 (21g 19a)
Upshall - 40 (18g 22a)
Umberger - 32 (17g 15a)

I don't have THN yearbook yet, but from reading other threads and comparing the predictions, they are one and the same.

Biron - 31 wins, 2.76 GAA, .908 Sp and 2 SO.
Niittymaki - 8 wins, 2.94 GAA, .901 Sp and 0 SO.

It also has Umberger under "Buyer Beware": Risk Management - I guess they picked a player from each team to stay away from.....

....and finally:

1. Ottawa
2. NYR
3. PIT
4. TB
5. BUF
6. ATL
7. NJ
8. TO
-------
9. PHI
10. CAR
11. MON
12. WSH
13. FLA
14. NYI
15. BOS

That is pretty much all the Flyers info in that book (I will post another thread with the depth chart predictions - funny enough, they think Potulny will have 40 points as their 5th centre??). The point predictions do mention that is it based on a full season......

Hmm, I'd say if he gets 40 pts then we're either in big trouble or Potulny makes a HUGE leap and beats out Richards/Carter...

that prediction is humorous.... 272 goals from 11 players and we don't make the playoffs? chances we don't make the playoffs with that much production from those guys... 0%.

Unless 11 players from Colorado combined for all the goals scored, Jester's point remains.

Colorado's top 11 scorers only scored 232 goals.. see what he's getting at?

yeah, you still have 7 skaters production to account for throughout the year. lets say they average something pitiful... like 4 goals... that's a 300 goal team, which would be rather amazing to see miss the playoffs. i would expect 10 goals from Kapanen... Eager should get 5-10 without too much trouble, but i think is capable of a few more. Coburn can get you 5... etc.

if that group gets us 272 goals, then we'll be the no. 1 offense in the league most likely (which i don't think will happen).

Also, trying to prove the accuracy of one accusedly bad prediction with another prediction from the same source doesn't hold much water.

I would be really shocked if the Flyers don't come in at least eighth....

Potulny is one of the 12 forwards on the flyers.nhl.com roster....does it say something about the status of other players joining the team.....?

doesn't matter until we get through camp... i was of the impression that he hadn't been signed yet, to boot. may have happened beneath my radar. could Potulny make the team? sure. however, Briere, Carter, Richards, and potentially Umberger are all at center over him as of now.

I haven't heard of him being signed. I would be suprised if it became an issue though.

40 pts prob won't happen still with any contract if the roster is healthy.
