NHL in the UK?

I was reading the Daily Mirror and there was a very small article about the owner of the Belfast Giants talking to the New York Rangers about the possibilty of a game in the UK in 2008, hope fully the NFL has set a trend for American sports here, myself being a Leafs fan hoped they would be involved.

Any thoughts on who would be the best match up fan, atmosphere wise and where would the play the game, taking into account the fact a portable rink might or could be madeand how big do you think the arena would need to be.

My dream would be the Leafs vs the Canadiens (then the Red Wings the next night, dreaming now)

Played somewhere in the midlands of England

Well, there is actually formal talks going on about the LA Kings playing 1 exhibition game and 2 regular season games in the O2 Arena (former Millenium Dome) at the beginning of next season. Against probably the Ducks and Canucks.

Very exciting stuff.

This is because AEG owns both the LA Kings (as well as the Staples centre i think) and the O2 Arena.

With regards to the other thing, i would love to see the Penguins play anyone, and for atmospheres sake i would pick the Leafs, i would expect the Leafs to have a large number of UK based fans so it would be nice. Played somewhere down south so i can get there easily!

Never been to the millenium dome, passed it by enough times, they might even charge us 5 a beer to make it feel like a north american stadium

2 Kings regular season games would be great are they talking for next season??

Yep...the articles in the British press say they would be exhibition games, but other press states they would indeed be regular season games.

Unfortunately looking at the dates, they would be exhibition games as the season begins in October and not September. That's too bad though, I would rather see you guys get a couple regular season games instead of just exhibition.
