so far awsome, i love the skill stick and the VERY fast pace of the games
things i like:
-they added extraliga and AHL and there are pictures for basically every player
-the salary cap makes it HARD to manage teams (but fun)
-goalies keep there eye on puck all the time, litte thing but i found it cool
- AHL playable season!
-Rask on Ilves is rated 91 ovr
-can send players to minors in dynasty to clear up cap space
-the ever changing AI makes the games HARD to play the same way
things i dont:
- no gary thorne or bill clement in the PS2 ver
- no AHL in dynasty mode to call up lashoff or krejci in PS2
- no create a play in PS2 ver
- some player faces are off (kessel looks like a 30 yr old)
- shootout camera angle is akward
in dynasty mode my bruins are 5-0-0
top three in points are
Sturm 7 pts 5g 2a
Kessel 6 pts 3g 3a
Kobasew 6pts 2g 4a
Murray 5pts 1g 3a
Wideman 4pts 3g 1a
(bergy no points through 5 games, but +7!!!)
manny is 5-0-0
1 SO, .957 SV%, 1.43 GAA
lines so far are (traded dono for shaef to start season)
Chara - Alberts
Ference - Fields (guy i signed from FA)
Ward - Wideman
Fernandez
Thomas
Great game and im glad i picked it up, not having the AHL in Dynasty (for PS2) is annoying, but at least you can still demote players to AHL and save cap space
all around great, especially since it was only 30 bucks

Let me check with you - my PS2 version is exceedingly slow at times, especially in the roster management area and minor league management (like 7-10 seconds to switch between teams). I also find the gameplay to be really choppy when too much is going on.
Do you find the same or do I have a faulty version? I also have the slim PS2, could that make a difference?
A question for you 360 boys, since i'm going to pick up my copy tomorrow! Can you recall and send down players to the AHL in Dynasty mode, like Krejki?

The Roster management section is also slow when selecting teams for me also
but on a whole (aside from some slow down) the games run pretty fast past for me
just got one thing to say and each year its the same thing
I hope the guy who does the rosters and faces and stuff about the roster management is shy to ask for his paycheck each week.
Because he sucks at it.
At some point I just stopped hoping for new ones. Let Sinden run that operation - his computer would be thrown into the hall and his check dropped at his feet.
I picked up an Xbox 360 just to play this game (I also bought Madden), and I'm having a hard time getting used to the shooting controls. Not to mention I'm a terrible defender. I've won only 1 game in over 10 attempts on Pro difficulty, and I'm 1-5-0 in Dynasty mode.
The game is amazing though, and especially fun with AHL teams involved.
The 360 versions does NOT have fantasy draft. Sucks, but only for that reason. The gameplay is really good.
Thanks. That does suck indeed, the fantasy draft is one of my favorite features. I'm still confused as to why they took it out in the first place (in '07), it's not like it involves a lot of coding or anything...
I play the PC version. The controls are a bit different but so far I like the game. Thank God they put the fantasy draft back in, and they added a trading block. Other than that there are only minor differences that I can see.
Anyone else having trouble getting used to the hitting/shooting controls on PS2? I'm using the right analog for both, it's a little confusing...other than that the game is awesome, it's a lot faster, and a lot more realistic. One thing I do like (that's really minor and I just thought was cool) was how the players get tripped up or fall when you get too close to the goalie. Very cool touch.
Even though I scored a Bobby Orr-esque goal today with...Andrew Alberts
aiight folks, if any of you guys that got the 360 version aren't zombified by now , wondering if you could give me a breakdown on gameplay vs. NHL07?
One thing I'm wondering, is are the games more realisitic? Meaning you can't really go out and score 15 goals if you select a 20 minute period.
Also, say you lead the game 3-1 in the third, is the computer all but guarenteed to score on a shot through 4 defenders from the wrong side of the blueline?
Just wondering if it's worth the time to go out and get the 360, or keep playin with 07 on the normal xbox.
08 for the xbox 360 may be the greatest hockey game of all time.
Some of the improvements...
the skating is so much smoother and more realistic.
they wave off icing if you miss a pass. (im sure im not the only person who was pissed that no matter how slow or how close the pass was if it made it over the line it was icing)
cycling and setting up in the zone is great and feels very natural
dekes are great, and you can actually really draw the goalie off to one side then snipe the corners.
5 hole goals!! no more does the puck get sucked into his pads even if hes left a gaping hole.
a few things that could still use tweeking
changing players often is frustrating because it doesnt pick the guy thats in the best spot to defend the net, just the closest person.
the player ratings are not very good im going to have to take some time to tweek the bruins stats a little. savard only a 84? and kessel and sturm slower than bergeron, savard and a bunch of other people?
thats the basic gameplay stuff i havent really got into the dynasty mode yet to know if they improved some of the parts of that like maybe having a trading block so you werent just trying to make blind offers all the time. it would be nice to have the computer offering you things that you could go back and forth on to see if you can get a deal done.
i love practice mode although one on ones are way too hard. defenseman never seem to bite on you special moves though just moving back and forth with the stick and skating side to side tends to get you around them better than the special dekes
goalie mode is fun although the camera particularly when the puck goes behind the net can screw you up trying to go post to post.
i failed to note the biggest and best improvement in the game
the opponent AI is very smart and plays like a real team. if you keep trying to get quick counter attack odd man rushes and drive to the net they will start dumping it in and playing a bit more defensive so you dont get odd man rushes and they will colapse on the net so you cant just pass it in front and deke the goalie. its important to vary your method of attack. sometimes cycle it and get shots from the point to open up the quick pass to a guy crashing the net. if you want to master this game your gonna have to learn to recognize what type of defensive style they are using. for example when they are using and aggressive puck side attack you can do some quick cycling and passing and draw about three guys into the corners and with one quick pass give yourself a 2-1 or better right in front of the net.
I got my copy of NHL 08 for PS2 yesterday morning. EB games never even had it one display at that point. Anyways i think 08 is way better than 07. Seems like the game is really meant for the Hybrid controls. I'm still getting used to hitting with the analog. Also I use action view and had to adjust the controls so the shooting is always up or down. Overall I'm pretty satisfied. I played a game on difficult and lost 3-1. Scores and stats are much more realistic than 06 or 07. The minor league manager loads pretty slow but making roster changed is not too bad. I also like the shoot-out mini-game feature.
A few small complaints. The announcers in-between plays will comment on some hits, but the only ones the comment on are cross-checks, not any real hits. Also using custom(old-school) controls I seem to have players double pass sometimes. This was a problem with 07 as well. Using Hybrid controls I'm used to having speed burst at the R1 Button but now it's mapped to L1, and the passing modifier(R2) I never use but stick to the X Button and Left analog for passing. The game will not allow you to map the Hybrid controls, only the Custom controls. I can understand not allowing to map the analogs but the other buttons should be able to be mapped. BUt overall I'm quite impressed. Ready to start another dynasty once the real season begins.
Got it my self yesterday for the 360. I played from 8:00 till 1:30 and drank an 8 pack (worked sucked today). Half of that was with 2 friends co-op. That is hard. I did win a few games vs the cpu later on. The controlls are different but shouldn't be too had to get used too. It might be the best hockey game I played yet. Only thing is I got to remember to stop hitting the Y button to check. My tag is drgreen69. But I need to pratice a little more before I start playing on line. I noticed some of the lines, am I the only one who put them selves on the team? Did the past roster updates over right your CAPS or did they just make the changes and left them alone?
