ok....ive been playing for 5 games and really starting to notice the difference in the AI, this is great....and the goals are more natural and realistic looking! (ps2) I can imagine how great they would be on a better system.

can you do me a favor?? if you have the ps2 game and the ahl is in it can you look to see if some of the players from the 98/99 pbruins team is in the game such as savage, smith, virtue, mann?
While on the topic of video games, can I get some advice please? My 8 year old has a GameCube which is now yesterday's news. Any advice on which system is the best? He plays mostly sports games on the cube. Also, anyone want an authentic, fully functional SegaGenesis w/ games for a small fee? Maybe a PM on either of these?

Reason: Not hijacking the thread
The past two days I've gone to blockbuster on my way home from school to pick it up, and it hasn't been in yet...I'm trying again tomorrow, and if they don't have it I'll be pissed.

Get an XBOX360 - it is better than PS3 - I had both and got rid of the PS3 - 360 all the way.

Try somewhere beside blockbuster, a mall, ebgames, game crazy, best buy, walmart
I had my girlfriend go grab it for me while I'm away - can't play it until the 24th - it's bugging me....but I have bigger fish to fry right now - gettting my MCSE down in Hotlanta
I do not like the fact that you can not change the controls. Unless I am missing something. But I guess I'll just have to play all the time to get used to it.
I also do not like the whole scratch system. That is one area I like with 2k. It's much easier in 2k to manage the rosters.

I read from the Rangers board that you can change the controls but they recommend not to, because once you get used to the new controls they are much better than the old ones.
Loving the game the more and more i play it. Have ti on difficult now and its great. The AI actually dumps and chases if you try to keep doing odd man rushes.....this makes my team stay deeper defensivley and cant break out as fast. It actually intercepts passes if you pass in the same areas. Pretty damn neat.
This game is pretty tough so far. I've only played like 4 games, 2 in dynasty. I barely beat Dallas 6-4 (with an ENG), then I lost 7-0 to PHOENIX! They took 70 shots too. This game is like (real) golf, you can't play mad. I took 8 penalties and was basically beating my head against the wall on offense, trying to do the same sort of thing over and over. You really do have to mix it up or any team will just shut you right down. Once I get the hang of this, I think this is going to be one of my favorite games ever (not just hockey).
I played the demo last night (PS3 version). First impressions are mixed.
The game presentation, like with all EA Sports games, is top notch. I can't believe I actually missed the Gary Thorne/Bill Clement duo.
If the demo is accurate, the AI is vastly improved. I moved over to the 2K brand because of it's more realistic gameplay, but I might switch back to EA now. Positioning, especially on defense, matters.
I hate the controls. I hate using the R2 button to pass. The R3 stick seems counter intuitive - no matter if I pressed up or down, my player would shoot the puck. I do like the dekes, though.
On defense, the controls are even worse. Again, I hate the way the shoulder buttons are used. In every hockey game I've ever played (except this one), changing what player you control on defense is normally done with the X button. The shoulder buttons are normally used to dive for a puck, pinning a player on the boards, or for kicking the puck along the boards if the player you're controlling is pinned to the boards.
The feel of the pokecheck, in the demo, is sloppy. It's hard to anticipate exactly how far your player will reach.
If I do buy it, I'm definitely changing the control scheme.
So, people who own it all ready, how does this game compare to the 2K series? Is there a franchise mode? Is there a decent create-a-player system?
take the time to get used to the new controls. you will be glad you did its so much better than using the old ones although it is tricky to get the hang of. my only complaint with the controls is that changing players on defense is also the pass button on offense so sometimes ill pick of a pass as im trying to change players and end up passing it to the other team. yes there is a pretty detailed create a player you can pick all the equipment and set any value to the stats.
Note: in create a player (or editing real players) do not put shot accuracy over 86 or so because it actually makes it more difficult to pick the corners. i editied a few players and made them more of snipers, or so i thought but instead i found out it makes you be more percise with the aim cause if you just pin the left stick to top left you will launch the puck over the net ever time. its a stupid mistake they made in the game, because most players with average accuracy will pick the top corners by just pushing the stick all the way to the corners.
This game is off the hook, i got every nhl game released for the playsation and nintendo game systems right back to blades of steel. I allready got the game sort of mastered as it takes a while to get used to the controls but the first game i played i won 8-0 playing Boston vs Dallas and of course my bruins won, so i would really recommend this game to anyone this game is totally off the hook.
