Leafs should draft...

Anybody else think that the Leafs should draft Adam Berti. He is a big guy at 6'3 and 192lbs. He is having a very good year considering Oshawa is not that offensive and that he only played 15 games last year. He has improved his skating and could improve it even more with some more bulk. When he gets going he is just flying into the zone and can bang and check hard in the corners. Power Forward in the making. He and Kyle Chipchura are my two favs in this years draft. We may even be able to draft Eager in a later round if he doesn't sign with philly. Eager has tremendous speed and acceleration as many know, and he is very agressive.

Adam Berti
6'3"/192lbs

We don't have any picks in the first 2 rounds.

Both those guys will likely be gone by our pick.

Maybee the League will give us a 1st Round conditional pick for Kidd....not for Losing him but that we had to put up with him for 2 years.

They'll sign him.

I'd be so happy if the Leafs could trade up into the first round. But it's really not necessary... we've got one hell of a scouting staff.

The leafs are going to rely heavily on Trapp advice again this year. He has extensive knowledge of young players world wide and is considered one of the best scouts in the world. I remember reading an article on Trap where it was said the rest of the NHL's scouts are going to be playing catch up to Barry Trapp for the next few years. I have always liked Barry and I think he is a great hockey mind, and great at recognizing young talent so I am sure he will do a good job again this year you have to look at some of the picks he was in on last year:

1:John Doherty - Doherty is a big kid at 6-4 , 213 lbs. A smooth skater with a ton of potential, John is more in the mold of an offensive defenseman but could turn into a force if he develops properly and is thought to use his size to his advantage. Doherty was a favorite of Trap and Barry was able to turn Quinn onto the young kids upside even though Quinn already had a log jam with defensive prospects. Especially offensive minded ones.

2:Martin Sagat - Martin is a big winger already at 6-3, and 191+ lbs. He's a great two way player and a guy who does not shy away from the physical game. Martin is a better skater then most people his size and is as hard a worker as any player in the league. Sagat though not a natural goal scorer has great passing vision and has the ability to make the tough high traffic passes.

3:Konstantin Volkov - 6-0 and 174 lbs Volkov is a prospect who we don't hear alot of info about. Konstantin is a great offensive player who has the dazzling moves and is a high flying offensive minded forward. Though not physical or aggressive player it does not slow him down from making the big play. Some compare Volkov to a young Igot Larionov and that remains to be seen but one thing for cretin is Volkov is a definite sleeper pick for Toronto and one that could turn out to be a gem.

4:John Mitchell - 6-1 and 193 lbs Mitchell is superb two way center. Mitchell is a great skater and has about 3 gears *fast-faster-warp speed* John is also a solid face-off man and team leader. Has drawn comparisons to NJD forward John Madden.

5:Jeremy Williams - 5-11 and 184 lbs Williams is an offensive powerhouse. He is the kind of player who can score with the best of them and also a great play maker. Williams has been working hard on his skating and has improved in that area drastically the only real down fall for this young man is his suspect defensive zone coverage something that can be taught. Williams has lived with the constant knock of his size through out his career and every time proved his critics wrong.

6:Shaun Landolt - 6-1 205 lbs Shaun is a physical winger who loves to bang and crash. There is alot of uncertainty about his offensive game but Landolt is a more then capable defensive player but he must improve on his consistency and skating to become a more complete player.

I feel these were superb picks considering the lack of picks Quinn and Trap and Co had to work with. I am confident JFJ, Trap, Quinn and co will do an excellent job again this year.

Ok so let me get this straight....you want to trade one of your few young players that you haven't traded for your latest deadline deal veteran, for a 1rst round pick that you could then use to get another deadline deal veteran in the future?

Is that the jist of it, cause i know you guys wouldn't be complaining about not having a 1rst or a 2nd round pick right?

As a season ticket holder of the generals and a leafs fan picking Berti would be rather nice but i can guarantee you he wont slip outside the top 40. He is the fastest North American skater(well at top prospects game) and he has a lot of physical tools to be a powerforward. Big guys who can skate like the wind usually dont get out of the top 50.

Also... drafting Eager, he does have alot of physical tools the guy is a mellon head at times. He is a big kid but he doesnt have a lot of offensive upside at the NHL level he has hands of stone if he isnt within 3 feet of the net.

I still wouldn't mind Eager in the 3rd/4th. He would be a great 3rd liner with 20g 20a kind of production. His size, physical play, hart and his world class skating would be welcomed any day.

Eager could easily be a great 3rd liner but I would be very surprised if he gets 20 goals in the NHL.
