Gainey's re-tooling

After a succesfull training camp, in which many Canadiens prospects showed management signs of wanting to stick around the NHL, general manager Bob Gainey decided to re-tool his squad a little bit.

In a shocking turn of event, last year's leading goal scorer Michael Ryder packed his stuff en route to Chicago, where he will continue his career. The Habs get promising defenceman Brent Seabrook in return, which might surprise quite a lot of people who were high on him. The Hawks desperately needed a sniper of Ryder's caliber, and Gainey was willing to ship him off to Wind City only in exchange of a young dman like Seabrook.

Mathieu Dandenault is going back to Detroit, where he played so many seasons and won multiple cups, in return the Habs get promising center Tomas Kopecky. Bob Gainey had this to say in his press conference this morning:

''We evaluated the players in place during training camp, and we came to the conclusion that Michael and Mathieu didn't fit into our plans. We knew these players could be very valuable to other teams, that's why we played hardball after placing them on the trade block. I believe that we've gotten an excellent return for both of these guys, and we are excited to see what Brent and Tomas can bring to our hockey club.''

NHL Game 1: Montreal @ Carolina

Plekanec's 2 goals not enough

The Habs started their 2007-08 season in Carolina on October 3rd, and after a first period where the dust was flying all over the ice, players started playing like real NHLers in the 2nd and 3rd. It was an exciting game, and the 'Canes came out on top in OT.

Tomas Plekanec scored twice for Le Tricolore, but it wasn't enough to give his team the W. The Hurricanes won 3-2.

Brind'Amour scored the winner for Carolina, but too bad EA doesn't let me check instant replay after overtime/shootout, because it was one heck of a goal.

In other news, the Canucks claimed Yanic Perreault off waivers from Chicago.

Komisarek injures Hamilton in the 2nd:

AHL Game 1: Lake Erie @ Hamilton

Le Magnifique

Francis 'Le Magnifique' Lemieux put on a show tonight with two highlight-reel goals in the Bulldogs' 4-1 win over the Monsters.

The defending Calder Cup champions played really well as a whole, and it looks like they are going to be major players again this year in the AHL. There is no question that this group of guys could repeat last year's run.

Could Francis Lemieux have a breakout year? Only time will tell...

Bullseye! Lemieux makes it 1-0:

Lemieux looks like #66 (AMAZING):
