definitely not...as long as it doesn't take ice time away from anyone important hartford could use the leadership and he'd give us depth as a callup.

How does he get sent down today if he was on a tryout contract? Is he just cut and Sam didn't characterize it as such?

my guess is that sam just misspoke and he was actually released from his tryout....although if he had no other nhl offers, its possible the rangers told him to report to hartford for a shot to earn a spot there as a veteran/callup. he'd have to clear waivers after being signed, but he'd have nothing to lose if no other nhl teams are calling.

Indeed, according to BB he was released from his tryout contract. He's still got a few days to catch on somewhere else before the season starts. Good luck to him.
