they had none two years ago...

Jagr led the team last year to the playoffs...Jagr has been the ideal captain for the Rangers and leadership isn't a problem...

The Rangers made a mistake letting Ortmeyer walk away. It will show itself some time during this season.

Ortmeyer is a great Penalty Killer, great defensively, he throws the body, hustles and works hard all the time, he's fearless in blocking shots and occasionally he'll pick up a goal or two....and some assists. Although, you never know, his offensive game may still improve.

Don't bother with Son of Steinbrenner. The guy hates Ortmeyer (probably because his girlfriend has a crsuh on Jed...or something) and he never passes up an opportunity to bash, denigrate, belittle and deminish Ortmeyer.

Him saying Ortmeyer was lazy last season, is laughable. Ortmeyer missed half the season recovering from that embolisim. They guy came back and played 41 games and then the Playoffs. Obviously Jed's game fitness was out of whack, with that long recovery time. It was obvious his stamina and legs were not exactly where it should be. That's what happens to guys who miss a lot of game time with injuries.

If only the whole Rangers team was a "lazy" as Ortmeyer!

Jed officially is a scoring machine now, accounting for 33% of our preseason goals to date.

It won't last long

Jed's a great player, but offensive prowess is not his strength. But that's okay, 'cause he does a whole lot of important things, elsewhere.

Ortmeyer is off to a good start thus far. Seems like he's going to fit in well with the Predators culture.

Good for Jed! He is the nicest kid and was the heart and soul of the NY Rangers while he was here. He will always be loved by Ranger fans.

He won the Officer Steven McDonald award twice. He has overcome a life threatening pulmonary embolism. Ironically, Mark Messier once told Jed he had a Captain's blood in his veins

He was Captain of the Wolverines and led them to the Frozen Four a couple of times. Nashville would be smart to make a hardworking guy like Jed their captain.

It's really too bad the Preds aren't coming to the Garden this season. You all would then see how much Jed is loved here.

All the best to Jed. He'll always be our Orty.

IIRC, Ortmeyer played top line his last year or two at Michigan and averaged about 17 goals/season, so it's not like he's totally incapable offensively. He scored a few of their biggest goals, too (CCHA championship GWG and the 2002 NCAA West Regional final GWG come to mind), not to mention set the tone for each game laying the body from the get go. I think one of the players once said you knew it would be a good game if Ortmeyer hit someone on his first shift.

its hard to say because the whole team has looked like crap.

Id say he has played as somewhat expected. Last night he was a -3 against the Los Angeles Kings. He had trouble bringing the puck out of the zone but he played physical and forechecked hard.

Early on into the season he created quite a few turnovers, but here the last 5-6 games, he hasnt been creating much havoc on defense in the offensive zone.

I see how Orts could be a valued player, but I'm not so sure he fits with Trotz system. IMO. . .An aggressive forecheck has never really been a part of what the Predators do and he seems like a guy that would excell in that area.

We obviously need a new system.

I thought he'd be another Tootoo type all out hustle and bang player but he's not on Tootoo's level.
