Didn't see the game, read through the thread...sounds like a wild game; that boxscore is a mess as a few of you have noted....
so the take homes from reading this thread?
Pettinger Gordon Clark looking good as a line
Green, Steckel, Fleischmann continued to stake their claims for roster spots
Ovechkin is Ovechkin
the picture of Steckel racing to the bench after winning a PP draw...if the draw is in the zone...stick him in front of the net for the screen and the rebound...yeah, I get the point about getting the offensive specialists out there...and interesting to read both articles about Steckel.
Schultz?
Laich?
By the way, check out the photo gallery on the Caps site, some pics from tonight's game and a great pic of Ovechkin

All positives regarding the offense have already been stated. No need to add there. I'd like to get more of a discussion going regarding the Caps defensive play in this game.
I think at least 3 of the Flyer's goals were unsaveable (Briere's tap in, Gagne's perfect snipe to the top corner and the deflection). I've gone over all the Flyers goal in my mind and I really can't figure out how we ended up allowing 5 goals.
Am I alone in thinking that none of the goals were a result of complete defensive breakdowns on behalf of the Caps? I think their first goal was slightly weak on Kolzig's behalf, but in the end, the Flyers played an incredibly opportunistic game. Green had no noticeable defensive lapses, and by all accounts, played a fantastic game. After all, in stingy fashion we limited them to 19 shots.
So....opinions on our beloved Caps defensive play?
Just got home from the game, i wanted to say that the fans in section 417 were awesome! Has anyone noticed them before, or was that a one time thing? I would love to be a part of that group, they were chanting, starting organized waves and waiving around the flag!
Are you talking about the Germans? If so, they're crazy. They totally make the games in that section beacuse they NEVER stop chanting.
My favorite was last year when we beat Buffalo badly and they were chanting "Buffalo where are you!?!?" and "Olie Kolzig" in their accents. It was hilarious.

Just three questions, I didn't watch WSH forum during preseason, so be easy:
I saw in this thread Nylander centered the Backström-Semin duo, did the coaches try him with AO too? If so, how did it look?
How's Nylander doing in general?
Thanks for replies.

That is easily going to be my most favorite line ----- they can cycle the hell out of the puck and then break down ice to create a scoring chance. It's nice to have a legitimate "checking/shut-down" line that can not only keep the oppositioin in check, but toss in a few goals.
I think a telling sign that Steckel is here to stay is that he changed his number during camp (didn't he start as 58 or 59? Now he's wearing 39) --- he did change the number, right, I'm not mis-remembering am I?

nope, he hasn't changed his number since camp started; he's been 39 throughout camp and on the camp roster released; Steckel wore 39 when he played college hockey at Ohio State; he wore 70 in his first NHL games and 25 during his NHL games last season, but Kozlov is wearing 25 now

Hmm, well, I'm gonna go ahead and blame my faulty memory on the fact that I received several work emergency phone calls during the game. Yeah, that's it.
Of course his place is in danger, anyone with half a brain knows that the new CBA clearly states...
Any player entering his first year in the NHL who does not get a point in every preseason game he plays in is ineligable for a roster spot at the start of the regular season and therefore must either be waived, traded, or killed before their teams first regular season game.
No only is his place in danger, but so is his life.

Yes those guys! Do they go alot? I will definitly look out for them in future games i go to
I didn't get to see the game last night cause i was out at a party.
After reading thread this is what i thought of the game
Ovechkin was a beast towards the end of the game.
The PP still isn't great
Steckel and Green should make the team
Flash should make the team on the 1st line.
If Eminger and Erskine are your sixth and seventh, do you really want Eminger out there with Green?
I know I don't.
I must be the only one who likes the Green - Poti pairing.
No...I never said that. If Eminger is the 7th defender, he doesn't automatically get put on the bottom pairing. If one of the top 4 goes down, Green would likely move up to the 2nd pairing.
Green in 3 years on the top pair, well I hope so, but you're asking for crushed confidence if you expect Green to shut down the elite lines in the NHL (this season).
