still catching up on the thread after getting home, but watching in the arena, looked like it was a direct reaction to the hit on Gordon...

I know the line-ups weren't even, but nice to watch the Caps winning faceoffs and have control of the puck.

edit: the postgame press conf is up, as well as photos, etc., check the Caps site

Pettinger-Gordon-Steckel line was incredible. Pettinger especially showed some flash. He should have a 20 goal season.

Kozlov looked very good out there as well. Not good in the faceoff circle, but definitely creating chances. He's got decent puck protecting skills as well.

Nylander would be a top-10 center in this league if he shot more often.

Green played out of his head. He takes risks, but out of them come far more quality chances than mistakes. I would venture to say that he's the 2nd fastest skater on this team.

Life is good on the faceoff front...

Gordon 9/12 - 75%

Kozlov 5/10 - 50%

Steckel 7/7 - 100%

Nylander 13/17 - 76%

Steckel is insane at faceoffs. I watched him a lot last night and he's got tons of tricks up his sleeves. He played great.

On one of the PP's, I said to my wife, "If we just put Oates out there, the Caps could control the puck for the entire penalty and not take a shot."

They controlled the puck for most of the game. I wish I would have thought of doing a time of possession clock. It seemed to be heavily weighted towards the Caps.

Alfredsson-Spezza-Heatley wasn't playing.

Kind of disappointing that we couldn't pull out the win. However, if we can completely dominate a top-3 team without their 1st line, it probably means we can at least hang with their opening night roster.

I understand they didn't have the top line playing, it was just fun to watch. It was the same kind of thing on Friday against the Flyers. The caps ran around with the puck most of the game. They had a few breakdowns that lead to goals, but they owned the ice. This is a big reason the shot counts have reversed from last year. The Caps are also getting more PPs than PKs because of puck possession. If the PP actually starts to score occassionally, the Caps could win more than they lose.

True and he's not afraid to get in front of the net, either.

Get used to it. There were stretches last year where Olie was terrible.

I do not forsee him getting better in his career at this point regardless if it is the preseason.

I am worried about the load of games he can play now at his age as well.
