NEW YORK (AP) - Madison Square Garden sued the NHL on Friday, saying the league has monopolized promotion of its teams.
According to the lawsuit, the NHL has claimed it will fine MSG, which owns the New York Rangers, $100,000 per day if it does not give the NHL complete control over the team's Web site and other promotions.
rangers are right on this one. teams should be able to control their own webpages, though I understand why the league wants all the teams webpages the same. same crap with the sweaters. The teams should be free to do what they want.
I don't like the new one but I never thought the old one was so great either. I do, however, think the teams should be able to customize them the way they want. Just make them put a prominently displayed link to NHL.com on each team's home page and that's it.
I LOVE the new look of the website. Why such hate for it?
A) It's a cookie-cutter eye sore, not nearly as well done as our current one and with less content (no Rangers On Demand for instance). Do you really want to have the same website as the Isles and Devils? Or the Flyers? Do you? Come on.
B) The NHL does not own the Rangers and should have very little to do with how we present ourselves with promotions and promotional tools as long as all of the copyright and branding required is intact. The league is overreaching, and we're the only team who stood up. I really wish the Leafs and Wings would have stood up as well. There is no league without the Rangers, Leafs and Wings.
C) The league is completely and utterly clueless with marketing hockey and the NHL and have proven it repeatedly over the last dozen years. Bettman's NHL, for whatever reason, likes to push the small market teams (for parity's sake, I guess, but it's still a ridiculous marketing scheme). Well, we're not a small market team, we do quite well on our own. Why give them any kind of control over how we are marketed? Nuts to that.
the old website....newyorkrangers.com seems to be more updated...it has updated stories about the finalized rosters as well as the roster with correct #'s---staal #18 and dubinsky #17...the new site doesnt even have dubinsky on the roster.
