Caps Classics

Comcast is showing Ovechkin's first game as we speak. (7:44 pm)

As nice as it is, seeing Biron in a Caps' sweater, well...it can shake a brother up.

I'm listening as much as watching and keep having to look up when they mention players...like showing Ouellet as the back-up on the bench and Sykora in the penalty box.

But it was worth tuning in to watch the Ovechkin hit on Suchy at the beginning.

Ovey's first shift that year was incredible! He NAILS Suchy and knocks off one of the metal stanchions causing a delay of game. And then scores 2 goals. You see that hit in near all of his utube videos. He met all expectations in one game and brought me back as a fan.

I love the idea, although the game they chose to show kinda sucked. Other than the fact it was Ovechkin's first game and all.

Hopefully they keep doing this, and show some games from the 80's and early 90's.

It's amazing how much better he looks in that game than he did last season. He also looked a lot skinnier.

I think today's Cap Classic game is last year's home opener ..... I like the fact that it's Cap week on Comcast (they aired two separate shows (Caps Season Preview and Caps Speak) yesterday - I think they're repeating them again today).

They say that tonights game is where the Dynamic Duo joined up for the 1st time.....that would be the Rangers game last year....which im praying is not what they are showing im also hoping for the Carolina game....hoping I can see myself throwing my JMU hat in the 3rd and hitting one of the Carolina players with it....lol

As has been said, pretty logical to think that the game they are showing tonight will be the home opener against Carolina not the opening game in NY based on the games last season.

And the schedule does list a repeat of the two 1/2 hour shows from yesterday.

About showing older games...right now, they are trying to get viewers interested in the season, this Caps team, etc., showing highlight games involving current Caps. It would be nice to see a few classics if they have the rights, etc., at some point, but not sure we will see that in this market.

The line you'll never see on GM's resume (2nd line)... Friesen-Cassells-Sykora

Great suggestion Jas, the 80's-90's games would be great to bring back, however, I wonder who phisically posesses the tapes of those games...

From watching "MSG Vault" this summer on MSG, evidently there are few if any game tapes of the Rangers in existance prior to the late 80's. The theme of the show (as I'm sure most of you guys know) is for the MSG announcers (Troutwig/Rosen etc.) to show and comment on tapes or even partial tapes of pre 90's Ranger's games that viewers or random TV stations have sent in from their private collection of game films. Some are even like 8mm home movies, filmed off a snowy TV screen.

Anyone know if the Caps, HTS/Comcast, Abe/Ted actually have any 70's-90's game films?

It was hard for me to throw that hat because it was my lucky hat...but I had just traded for Semin 2 days before the season started on my fantasy team and it was highly contested almost vetoed actually (GMs in that keeper league now listen to me about Caps prospects and alot of other hockey vets ) So I had to let it fly the hitting of a carolina player was just a plus

I was just roaming around the internets and can now confirm that the game they are showing tonight is in fact the Carolina game from last season.

In an article on Comcast it says that the 2 combined for 5 goals

Semin with they Hatty and Ovie had 2 that game

I was sitting in the lower bowl on carolina's side of the ice that game. It was awesome. I was really pulling for Ovi to pot his 3rd too. That would have been awesome.

And I graduated from JMU in 01.

One thing I am reminded of looking back at some highlights (NHL.com, my DVR, etc) is that Juice had more than one really nice takeout hits. Hope he keeps that up.

I would love to see some playbacks of the first few years with Langway and Stevens. Thats what got me addicted to Caps hockey.
