GDT: Columbus @ Calgary 03/18/04

Just thought I would start this one since my first GDT ended with a W in DET.

This is a game the Flames desperately need to win. The BJ's are looking to play spoilers so the Flames will have to bring it early and often. Vancouver & Dallas play tonight so Calgary will gain ground on one of them at least should they beat Columbus tonight.

Lines in Detroit on Tuesday:

Simon - Conroy - Iginla
Nieminen - Nilson - Donovan
Gelinas - Yelle - Clark
Oliwa - Lombardi - Kobasew

Is McAmmond back tonight ?? Will Saprykin sit once again ???

I say 4-1 Flames.

Calgary - Iginla (2), Simon & Nilson
Columbus - Vyborny

is kipper playing? i doubt it since the flames have upcoming games against nashville and dallas. plus, the turek has proven to be a capable backup goalie against subpar teams.

Don't take this game for granted. We've had trouble with Columbus in the past, and weaker teams in general. Every point at this stage is important, they better take it serious.

Trust me. The Blue Jackets have quit. It's all over. Your guys would have to try to lose to the CBJ tonight.

5-2 Flames. Nash finally scores again to be the lone bright spot for the CBJ.

Actually, the Flames own the bottom feeders this year. The past is only that, the past.

I'm far more worried about the "first game back at home" letdown than anything the Jackets might bring.

Flames lead 1-0 at 6:19 in the 2nd.

Lombardi's 14th goal of the season assisted by Gauthier.

Saprykin (damn it!!), Lydman, and McAmmond all did not play.

As usual, the team looked good. They were steady, but not spectacular. Kiprusoff made a number of great saves, the defense was solid. Steve Montador played a decent game, and the officiating was brutal. Lots of bad calls.

Man Zherdev is a treat to watch. He deeked out a number of flames defenseman and even went coast to coast once, nearly scoring. He's a great talent. Iggy scored tongiht for his 37th of the year, and now is tied with Rick Nash for second in goals, one behind Kovalchuk!!!

GO FLAMES GO!!!!

IMO, the Flames turned a corner tonight.

Previously, people decided which games to see based on the opponent.

Tonight, nobody cared who the opponent was, everyone wanted to see the Flames. Sounds like the last four games will all sell out too, for the same reason.

Yep, wicked crowd tonight. That's the kind of crowd you usually see for Colorado-type games. Lots of people, lots of energy. Can't wait for the game on Saturday.

WILL sell out?! I'm pretty sure they HAVE sold out!

Anyways, it was a great crowd tonight. When Iginla potted the EN I don't think I've ever seen so many people standing after a goal.

Team played alright. It should have bene 3-0 after the 1st period but Denis was outstanding.

Regardless, two valuable points. Bring on the Preds.

Things are looking really good now with LA's loss to San Jose tonight. We are now 7 points up on them. Only one behind Dallas and two behind the Canucks. Things would have to go really bad over the next 8 games for the Flames to miss the playoffs....I just don't want to celebrate until it is 100% official though.

I was a little worried we might come out a little flat tonight, just because we hadn't played a weak team in a while, but they came out quite strong and if it wasn't for Denis, the score would have been probably 4-0 or 5-0. Lots of jump tonight again. The crowd really seems to energize the guys. I love that Donovan-Nilson-Nieminen line. So much speed and awesome forechecking.

And like Cactus said, man Zherdev is a stick handling whiz. This kid has some serious skill. Give him one full season in this league and he could be the next Datsyuk, if not better. The Jackets have good building blocks with Nash and him.

Another good effort tonight boys. Keep it up, I can smell that playoff birth!

I think all Flames fans feel the same way.
