richards: 1.04 ppg

If you go by more recent stats, they are much closer. Plus Elias is the player other teams focus on, whereas Richards has had Lecavalier and St. Louis to split the attention of the other team.
Quote:
AS OF NOW..RICHARDS IS THE BETTER PLAYOFF PERFORMER.
I think it's about even. If I were listing the top 10 playoff performers in the NHL today, they would both probably be on my list. Richards might have a slight advantage, but not 1.8 million of an advantage. Richards has a better PPG. He also has had the best playoff run of the two (Conn Smyth). But other than that one time, he hasn't led his team very far. Elias's runs in 2000 and 2001 were almost as good as Richards' 2004, and he led the Devils in scoring both years. He was also the best forward in the league through two rounds of the 2006 playoffs; too bad the rest of the team crapped the bed.

and as for the st louis thing... no i dont know..i NEVER heard that about st louis...
You must not talk to any hockey fans who aren't Lightning fans.

and your trade isnt close to equal value....nj would not only get the better player NOW but they would get the younger player with more potential.... how is that even close to fair?
1.8 million in cap space will get you a pretty damn solid player. Hell, it might be enough to provide that upgrade in goal Tampa so desperately needs, so long as the team can dump one of its current goalies.

Anyway, right now isn't the time for either team to trade their star player. I was just trying to propose a more realistic trade than Elias and a first for the second best forward in the NHL.

Correct. Good on you for getting it within a few posts, there are people around here who have been told that for years and still don't get it.

I suppose that's what I get for making up a stupid trade, though.
Pretty much. You're also wrong about Tampa's depth, but we'll just let that slide.

I don't see any reason to be dumping on Elias though, IMO he's an awesome player and I'd love to have a guy like him on Tampa.

Remember when Gomez and Holik were rumored to be moved for Lecaviler? That would have been sick now.

Especially since neither is on the team anymore

I don't remember those rumors, though. Clearly neither player alone would have been enough.

Why would Tampa do this? Vinny's in the top three of best players in the league. Oh yea, the first rounder.

Nope for the Devils. Lecavalier is too Canadian to give up the #2 LW in the league. I mean, how is he going to fit in when no one in the locker room even says "eh"?

You all know that this is a fair trade.
You Lightning fans over rate Lecavalier way too much.

Elias is as good a player as Vincent is.

Vinny Lecavalier is the best forward in the NHL not named Sidney Crosby.

How bout Elias for Lukowich, goalie prospect Karri Ramo, and a 2nd or 3rd?

With the way Patty and the D has been playing I can't say I wouldn't welcome it

We'd free up a ton of cap space, get back a solid D, Ramo could be a #1 someday, and I'm sure Lou would make the most out of any picks we'd get.

I also think Elias would recharge his career in TB and flourish on a line with Vinny, Richards, or St. Louis

as far as the trade i dont think its that far off in value, but youre not looking for value when the lightning have no reason to trade vinny at this point.

Then why did you yourself feel the need to throw in a 1st rounder from the NJ side? If your feelings get hurt that easily, you shouldn't be posting proposals.

No, but let me just say thank you for whatever you all did to Lukowich. His play used to drive me absolutely nuts, but now he's a solid d-man and playing great.

It's what the Devils do. For some reason the D men they work turn out to be real good when they leave.....Jason Smith, Souray, Rafalski, NIedermayer, Modry, Van Ryn, Willie Mitchell, commodore. And those were just drafts or free agents out of school.----That said how about Matvichuk for Ranger....Straight up....Whadaya say!!! LOL, or Boyle.....after he heals!!!

I was really hooping we kept Luko though. He was probably our most consistent D man last year.
