might as well post these here, they're late i know and i realize some don't like long posts, but here goes anyway...
(with all the doom and gloom on np.com, you simply cann't get any decent discussion right now)
...sometimes it's the little things that change a game or give up goals. a few examples wednesday of what happened on the goals allowed that some might not have really noticed;
(goal 1). dumont is caught out too long on his shift. instead of the normal 40 seconds for 1:14. he's blown and cann't get off ice and since he's trying to be the lead forechecker he cann't pressure the puck like fresh legs could have, they get a quick, clean, long breakout pass that starts the sequence that leads to their first goal. a perfect example of a guy trying to do too much. add in the confusion between suter and hamhuis in preventing perry from walking out from behind uncovered. (primarily on hamhuis here)
(goal 2). our fourth line get's smoked. smithson, fiddler, and hordichuk all caught deep in the zone, all bunched together in the low slot leads to a clean 3 on 2 back the other way, and the critical take the lead back goal, after we had worked so hard to get back even. three guys trying to do too much, without the talent to be trying to do what they were doing. of course, devries gets caught covering the guy on the halfboard and cann't get back in the lane to stop the rush and then lets a weak pass trickle striaght thru his legs onto wirtanen's stick on the return pass, and mason somehow allows the shot to beat him from a bad angle. an entire sequence of failings led to this goal.
(goal 3). we're pressing by now, trying anything to generate offense. erat this time stays out too long. hamhuis with a terrible read trying to pokecheck the puck away on the centering pass to the bleuline instead of falling back and covering, devries caught not supporting as well. (mase with a weak breakaway goal allowed honestly).
not very fun to be a pred fan right now is it?.. all we can ask is for them to play hard though, do that and i'm behind this team and still believe we can put up 90 odd points and at least make a race of things..
