Marty still made some huge saves in that game.. Hopefully we will come out and play some good d-sive hockey for 60 minutes.

I do not get your point.. So what? Devils score 5 goals in that game... Both team played high tempo o-sive hockey.

I'll compile them into one post.

Devils will start playing better hockey. I have no doubt about that. Once White and Langenbrunner come back, also Marty will start playing better soon.

they'll play better, but that team should be terrifyingly weak up front if you're a Devs fan. if you got players like Madden and Asham taking regular shifts on your 2nd PP unit (obviously Langs being out hurts here), that's a problem... given that neither is a real offensive producer in this league... career highs of 41 and 34 respectively.

we'll see how that goes, but they're going to have to win a lot of tight games... and Brodeur is going to have to be exceptional again this year in order for that formula to work, I think.

Well that's excatly what I said on Devils boards.. When you have Asham on 2nd PP unit, it is a problem.
I think Devils are a much weaker team then last year and I was very happy that Lou signed Vishnevsky and Zubrus. I consider both very weak on D.

Absolutely! I think Brodeur should be much better then last year. Is it even possible?

The biggest problem with Zubrus was that he was essentially signed to replace the production of Gomez, which is a pretty big stretch for him. He's a fine player, but he's not that good and benefited from playing with Ovechkin the last couple of years.

No. 78 GP and a .922 SV% just aren't happening again most likely... which isn't a shot at him, I'm sure he'll put up a very good .915 or something, but that'll be a few more goals over the course of the year and they have a very slim margin for error. He might equal that, which would be very impressive, but he isn't going to be better than last year.

Even though he's had a few bad games, I can't remember the last time he's gone through stretches of mediocre play. When the Devils were in past slumps, Brodeur would still give them a chance to win every game. I guess playing several 70+ game seasons will effect anyone, as Brodeur might finally be showing signs of aging.

he's been streaky at times the past few years... this is just sticking out because it's particularly rough and right at the start of the year. he'll come around.

I do not think he is a fine player. Mediocre at best and not because he plays for the Devils now. He has two things going for him: size and speed. If not for Ovechkin, Zubrus would still play 3rd line for 800K

there's some truth to that, but he's better than your average 3rd liner, and would be making more than 800K.

Ok 1.5M and I would never pay him that much.

Surprised ESPN didn't bump them down 10 spots for going 1-2 last week.

we're def not four...

I don't know which three you would place comfortably above Philly but I could easily say Ottawa, Detroit, and Minny

I also have the Canes, Columbus, and Montreal

so I have them at #7 but I could make a better argument for them to slide down rather than move up.

Mine is based on the RPI formula which is heavily weighted on home/away wins and losses. Our 5-5 away record and 4-0 home record really help their rank. In fact, after last night they moved up to #3. The other factors in the formula are opponent's record and opponent's opponent's record.

If we can be a .500 team on the road and a .700 team at home that bodes well for the playoffs.

I appreciate the weekly updates ray. The power rankings don't necessarily mean anything but it's interesting to hear what people think of us.
