The general talent level now is much higher than when we had guys like Davidsson and Ronnqvist competing to be top 6 forwards. We still have a ways to go, but I wouldn't want to go back to those days.

are you serious? maybe not the most suited player to the NHL game, but he had (and still has) some talent. one of the better players in the SEL right now.

Exactly my point. He's a random nobody in the system now, not much different than a Tenkrat type guy from the last GM's farm system.

Too bad the results on the ice are pretty much the same. We are still stuck with 3 legit top 6 forwards, a bunch of really good 3rd liners (Nieds, Rucchin, Leclerc) and kids with upside (Chistov, Lupul).

Besides maybe when Kurri played with the twins, did they ever have more than 2?

edit: I wasn't clear on what I was talking about.

J.F Jomphe-Looked like a biker
Frank Banham-Was supposed to be some sort of goal scorer...now he's washing dishes at Hooters.
Jorgen Jonsson-Probably the worst player i've ever seen.
You forgot Josef Marha

Fair enough, but you could add Getzlaf to the kids list.

True. On the other hand he might not be any more successful than Balmochnyk (sp?) or Smirnov. Frankly, I'm not willing to say anything about Getzlaf based only on a few pre-season games. Especially considering he's not under contract.

I'm pretty sure Getzlaf will be under contract by the end of training camp. I'd say he has more potential than Smirnov or Balmonchnykh. I prefer to be optimistic.

Based on all the success we've had with our prospects?

I just don't see how resigning oneself to failure and pessimism helps the situation.

Also one bad season from Chistov doesn't mean his career is over. And Lupul has the second most goals ever by a Ducks rookie. I'd say that's reason for hope.
