Not close to downie or boulerice in terms of intent, but Jones didnt let up either. The way the play was developing, he was going to have trouble avoiding contact but he definitley gave it his all and followed through as if bergeron wasnt facing the glass.

Im pretty concerned for bergeron, he didnt seem to come to during the entire process and they showed him out on the stretcher as he was coming off. Didnt see any movement whatsoever and he had his uniform and shoulder pads cut off. Completely limp. Hopefully he is okay.

In terms of suspension, im thinking jones is looking at something less than downie, but still significant. Maybe 10 games? 15?

Flyers fans have a case to say it wasnt in the same ball park as other incidents this year but realistically it was a no respect hit.

Also, this is getting bad for the flyers as an organization. I dont believe for a second they encourage this type of play but people were already making accusations with the kesler incident. Will be interesting to see what their brass have to say after the game.

it was not a fluky play at all, if he wasnt trying to hit him as you are saying, why did he finish his check on him into the boards?

That was scary looking though. Nothing moved besides his chest from breathing the entire time. I really, really hope we don't see anything close to what could be the worst case scenario from something like that.

You've defended with great vigor Boulerice and Downie. Now this? Have you ever seen a hit that you would consider illegal? I think you just take the side of the checker and never even saw the play.

I am not surprised there are people defending this hit, and calling it unintentional. I think you people need glasses, that was clearly an "intentional" hit, Jones meant to hit him, and he drove his neck and head into the boards, by pushing neck first.

If he had crosschecked him low or something, it may be different...but this was a push on the neck.

He should, and better, be suspended

Unfortunate play. You can't accuse Jones of trying to injure him. It wasn't a clean hit and it was wreckless, but it's a play that happens a lot in this sport. This time it appears to have resulted in a serious injury.

I just hope Patrice is going to be okay.

Seeing the replays on NESN right now...

A careless play by Jones but I wouldn't call it dirty. The contact against the boards is what obviously did the damage. Jones will definitely get suspended depending on the severity of the injury. It he's really hurt bad, I think he'll get the biggest suspension yet because the league needs to continue cracking down on the dangerous hits and the fact it was another Flyers player.

Here Patrice stopped short of the wall and at that point Jones had no shot to stop going forward. There's no doubt in my mind he wasn't trying to hit him where he did.
You're talking out of your ass again.

Bergeron stopped on a dime with his back towards Jones. After Bergeron has stopped, Jones extends his arms through Bergeron's back and drives him into the boards head first. His momentum didn't even carry him into Bergeron, and it wasn't a bang bang play at all. Bergeron had his back to him and Jones drove him into the boards with his arms.

I'm sure Jones did not intend to break his neck, but you have to know better than to do something like that. This is how careers end. This is something that the NHL has worked hard to eliminate from the game, and this is something that has absolutely no place in hockey at any level.

Once again, the replays showed him moving his right leg back and forth during the fight after the hit.

You have to immediately think neck injury with the way he went down but his breathing was very apparent.

I really hope that Bergeron will be ok but it doesn't help much. He put himself in a vulnerable position and Jones finished the check with the current result.

When there so blatantly in front of you that stevie wonder could read his number then maybe you shouldn't finish your check right at the boards.

This is great coming from a guy whose favorite team had such angels as Tie Domi and Darcy Tucker.

Bravo.

Sucks even more that Bergeron's parents were in the crowd.

That hit looked unintentional but it was definelty irresponsible. Man it was awful. You never wanna see that.

I hope that i am wrong but that looked like a broken neck to me.

His parents saw it live too. What a nightmare!

It would've been very hard not to make contact...but Jones left his feet and forced completing the check when his head was down...he should definitely be punished severely.

It's a respect thing...you just don't hit someone with their back turned towards you and they're facing the boards. Don't pin this on Bergeron.
