A loss is acceptable when the team give an effort. The Sabres were alone on the ice. And what happened after Ryder scored? Everybody was playing good after that, for 5 minutes. When we don't give a good effort, we can't win. I mean, do you think the Toronto Maples Leafs would play poorly as that at this time of the year??? It's not acceptable

And for Kovalev, you should know that his trademark is inconsistancy. This is exactly what he gave us in first 7 games. Look at the stats, everybody was saying that he would become a great superstar and he had about 6-7 averages seasons with the rangers (20goals-30passes-à la Perreault). After, he put up the points with Mario and then, another bad season with the Rangers...Maybe he will never be as good as he was with the Pens...6.6 millions is too much for such a player, I would keep the money for another player.

Maxim Afinogenov is a very talented player too, he have speed, stickhandling and flashy style but he can't put the points on the board! I compare him to Kovalev for that.

Maybe I'll change my mind but i'm desapointed so far. And I like Kovalev a lot by the way!

Kovy hasnt done as much as people expected but im sure that he will get it done. Somthing is bothering me though. We brought him here and we dont play him with our best players (Koivu and Zed) what kind of message is that?

Well, I think we should give him more time before we judge him, after the playoffs will be the right time to evaluate him. So far, he doesn't deserve more than a C- in my book.

Yeah but TB are 1st overall in this league. And they were due to win a big one!
Sabres don't have St-Louis/Lecavalier gamebreakers...

Tonight he played with them but the result was catastrophic. The lines should be...
Perreault-Koivu-Zednik
Kovalev-Ribeiro-Ryder

at all time!

Perrault? Out! Bulis should take his place. We clearly saw how Perrault was awful tonight while Bulis made things happen.

Gee, I wonder if his seperated shoulder has anything to do with that?

Sometimes i'm embarassed to call myself a fan of this team.

Cause make no mistake, Canadiens fans are brutal. It's no wonder Hab fans get mocked in these circles.

It's cause of threads like this.

At first I thought you were being sarcastic, given your numerous exclamation marks and being so terribly wrong.

1. The Leafs have been playing poorly lately. So have many quality teams.

2. Kovalev doesn't suck because you had incorrect expectations of him.

3. It usually takes time for a creative player to develop chemistry with his new team. How many points did Koivu have in his first 7 games this season? We've learned now he was playing injured (as some suspected then), but then Kovalev's also likely playing injured.

It took awhile for Ryder and Koivu and then Ryder and Ribeiro to get chemistry, but they found ways by having the wingers switch sides, and they found dead areas of the ice where they could make plays. It's going to take time and the players have to talk it through and practice. They are all skilled, intelligent players so I expect them to figure something out and make adjustments.

Is it a conditioning issue?

La Presse was implying as much. Apparently Rangers conditioning practices are akin to a country club.

He has to ramp up to Julien and Gainey's conditioning expectations, then we'll see.

Everything will be fine... If Kovalev's attitude doesn't change and he doesn't start giving second effort, CJ will sit him down and have a good talk with him.. and it will work. Kovalev's biggest problem I think is he's trying too hard to score pretty goals... notice how all of his shots that missed the net (most of his shots) are by a couple of inches.. he tries to deke around everone... he's trying too hard to make his first real goal with the habs a hilight reel goal..

Thats just my opinion.. I hope he changes. If you guys don't understand what I mean, focus on him when he gets the puck, or when he shoots.

2 things:

- Can we please please PLEASE play Kovalev on his natural right wing? last night was the perfect chance for that and for some ridiculous reason Zed was on RW and Kovalev on LW. I know for many players it doesn't matter what wing they play but I can't recall Kovalev playing LW in the past. It was ALWAYS RW. Kovalev is NOT a Left Winger.

- Gainey made this trade for the playoffs. I am sure he really doesn't care if Kovalev goes scoreless the rest of the regular season. All that matters is Kovalev producing in the playoffs, when we will truly need him.
