Outside of his first return vs the Flames when he was robbed twice in the first frame by Kipper, York hasn't shown that he's confident enough to shoot the puck.
So really I don't know waht point is to put him on the top two lines. Maybe that's not MacT's plan for tonight but I'd wager it is if Smyth is out.
Why put him on the ice? Because he is the best the Oilers have - shot or not. He can shoot - he took a couple slapshots vs. Nashville and was shooting without problems in warm up that night too. His solid 2 way game isn't effected and he is a threat on the ice. More than we can say for Hemsky, Chimera, and others. THis is the most valuable player the Oilers have - if he is even 70% it is still enough to warrant him in the lineup and out for a consistent shift.
He would never get a breakaway anyways. Hewould have passed far before he got the chance. Anyway, he played very well and has played very well for the past 5 or 6 games. Solid play, getting some points, and a real stabalizing force. People are expecting the Adam Oates of the early 90's, IMO he has been way better than people have been saying (less the offense).
