Flyers 2002 5th Round Pick Morris

Harvard beat Dartmouth tonight (Friday) to advance to the ECAC Final against 9th seed Clarkson tomorrow night (Saturday); the winner goes to the NCAA Tourney. Goalie Dov Grumet-Morris (5th round/2002) was steady again.

Nice, It's good to see the goalie prospects doing well. Thanks for the update.

You are welcome, King Fish.

Harvard did beat Clarkson (and their Oakland Seals-esque uniforms) 4-2 (game winner with 37 seconds to play) to advance to the NCAA Tourney of 16 teams. Morris was good again, including a Hasek-like save early in the game. If I heard the announcer correctly, he is 13-1 career-wise in the playoffs (this is his junior season).

Colin Shields 195th pick in 2000 named to All-Tourney team

Another update:

Harvard, which won the ECAC Tournament, plays the University of Maine in the first round of the NCAA tourney (Friday, March 26).

Maine won the Hockey East title and Flyers 2000 (195th) draft pick Colin Shields was selected to the Hockey East All-Tournament Team after their triple-overtime win against the University of Massachuetts in the FleetCenter. He is a senior forward.

Great to see him doing well.
Two things.

1. Goalies are like pitchers (sort of) as you take a bunch in the draft at all rounds and with hop and patience some will work out. Also, not always the highest ranked guys although they have better odds. I love what the Flyers have done recently with piled mid round picks - take a bunch of young goalies in college and Europe and give them time, see who rises to the top.

2. Is Shields to be signed? He seems to have enough O at least for a look on the Phantoms/call up type plan. Anyone have inside info, or better than just a gut feeling on this?

Has that changed. Has he changed.
That blurb is out of date and tilts me towards them not signing him and is the reason I asked if there was any inside news.

Harvard (and Flyers' draft pick goalie Morris) fell 5-4 to the nation's top ranked team the University of Maine in the first game of the NCAA Division One tourney today (3/26). Maine trailed 4-1 after two periods but scored 4 times in the last period to win. Colin Shields, another Flyers' pick and Maine's leading scorer, diidn't distinguish himself in this game.
