He's in pain, but he hopes to be back for the next game.

Kovy's an honest guy, if he felt like he would have to be out for a long time, he'd say so. I expect, that if he misses any games, he'd only miss the Florida game, but Ilya Kovalchuk isn't the kind of player who will stay out of the lineup for long. I think we'll see him back for game #16.

I obviously didn't see the play, but since he hurt himself while trying to one-time a shot while off-balance, he probably pulled a muscle in his back or something. Unless there was a more severe injury, a couple of days of rest should be sufficient.

Ilya has not missed an entire game due to injury since March of 2002. I will be surprised if he doesn't play Friday.

Ilya Kovalchuk was scheduled for a precautionary MRI Wednesday afternoon, the results of which probably won't be known until Thursday.

...

"Let's see how the next 24 hours goes," Waddell said. "If it comes back that it's strictly back spasms, 24 hours makes a huge difference."

Team doctors decided Tuesday night that an MRI was a good idea. It was reinforced Wednesday morning, Waddell said, when Kovalchuk woke up feeling very stiff.

The results of Ilya Kovalchuk's MRI exam Wednesday were negative and the Thrashers star is listed as day-to-day.
