Keep an eye on the rising star Vasyunov Alexander of Lokomotiv Yaroslavl! He has already repeated his achievement of the 1999/2000 season when he scored 52 goals. The season is not yet over but he has already scored his 52 goals and overpassed his personal record of 68 points (52+16). 70 points is not bad for a 14 years of age kid after the the first half of 01/02 season

Those stats were in 2002. This year, he has 23-12 for 35 pts in 18 games. He is still pretty good.

Vasyunov good but not phenomenon already

By January 2004 Vasyunov Alexander is scoring leader and goal scoring leader as well in his age group with 1988 born players GP 18 G 23 A 12 PTS 35 Not bad but time for him to become leader in another age group 1987 born kids like 2004 undoubted first overall choice Ovechkin did couple years ago! The other kids from Yaroslavl are close to him in scoring leadership. Has chances to be top prospect by 2006 NHL Draft but still lot of time ahead almost two years and I know lot of skilled RUS players from national team who finished at 18.

Could Vasyunov be the russian version of crosby. His stats that I have seen thus far have been amazing. Does he have the raw talent of a Kovalchuk at the same age or is he more polished like an Ovechkin? Who can Vasyunov be compared to if his potential maxes out at the NHL level? Thxs in advance..

Would like to know more about this kid too. Is it possible that we will have three "once in a lifetime" talents in three years? Maybe they will now become once a year prospects...

See some of my comments there

Note his stats are great but take them with perspective: (i) most of the best 1988 players do not play in that championship but in the other regions' championship (mostly Ural), and (ii) other players score a bunch of goals in other classes of generation. For instance for the 1989 generation, Alexei Mirnov (Igor's brother) got about 70.

He is not among the best scorers at the 1988 finals.

Does anyone know if Golovatsky of Metallurg is related to the former Metallurg player?

That's interesting because someone like Nefedov scored a lot more. I'm not saying scoring is the only thing but it usually means someone is good. This could of course mean there is more to Vasyunov's game than scoring but I would want him to contribute to the national 87 team to consider him a talent of Kowalchuk or Ovechkin class.
