I agree thats too low, but the way the offense has been I don't think its extremely off base at this point in the season. And with the issue being late, the ranking were probably done when the Rangers were a few games under .500

I think he's saying they ranked the Rangers defense at 22 out of 30.

Which if they were doing purely by players, probably isn't a stretch. Going by team defense however, it's pretty off base.

Ah... looks like you're right. I should have read that more clearly. I thought he was talking about some power rankings.

In that case, 22 overall is ridiculous.

Yeah I read that too. Whoever wrote that hasnt watched much of our team. I dont have it in front of me but it said something to the effect of that the Rangers have a lot of weapons on offense but a very questionable D.

If we have a questionable D, then what about the other teams that are giving up almost twice as many goals as us every game?

If anything, our defense is pretty good at worst.

the rangers defense is pretty decent, at best.

being a defenseman in the NHL is more than blocking shots and downlow play, its zone clearing, making breakout passes, moving the puck out of your own zone, play on the point/keeping the puck in, etc.

These are areas of the game where the rangers have issues.

If you consider those factors, alongside steady, but not spectacular defensive play (and its the hockey news FFS), the 22/30 is a bit unfair, but not at all surprising.

I think they did the ranking by ranking players and salaries, not team defense.

On paper, you wouldn't think the Rangers would be as sound defensivley (sp?) but they are playing a sound system.

I wouldn't get my feathers ruffled by that article.

I agree.

The names on the Jersey's don't jump out at me, but the system they play lends alot of assistance from the forwards being diligent on the back-check.

With that said, we have one youngster that is playing on the top pairing and looks like he will be a fixture there for a long time. Staal has looked so comfortable playing top pairing minutes. His developement and acclimation to the NHL has been alot faster than I thought it would have been.

I'm more impressed with Tyutin and Girardi, those two seem to be so used to each other right now. Not just that, but everything they do seems natural, smooth effortless and right. I think that these so-called no-name guys are going to make people take notice real soon
