Scoreboard Watching Part IX

Games relevant to the Oilers tonight:
1) Blackhawks vs. Blues: LET'S GO HAWKS!
2) Oilers vs. Coyotes: LET'S GO OILERS!

Tonight's Breakdown:
First, the Hawks/Blues. This game, again, is very important to the Oil; a win (in regulation) by the Hawks tonight give the Oilers a chance at 7th. The Oilers have a must win tonight against the struggling Coyotes (anti-commy Comrie is in town ). A win tonight puts the pressure on Nashville to pull even -- a pressure they don't seem to be responding to all that well (hence the loss to CBJ last night).

The only thing left for the Oilers to do is win games and hope Nashville doesn't run the table too. Say it everyone ....
I BELIEVE!

Last night's Breakdown:
Well, the Hawks made it interesting, but lost; the Jackets surrendered a point to Nashville, but got the OT victory; and the Flames beat the Kings in OT, who now pretty much need to run the table just to have a hope at the playoffs.

We slip out of the playoffs (by virtue of fewer wins), but are in control of our destiny with the anti-commy Comrie coming to town. A win tonight puts us back in ... at least until .........

Standings:
Place-Team-Points-GR
6. CGY 90 3
7. STL 85 5
8. NAS 85 4
9. EDM 85 4
10 LAK 80 4
Notes: The Kings are all but done, and the Flamers are almost mathematically impossible to catch.

Does Pressure Make Perfect?

Thanx for the update.

If 93 points is what it will take then the 'OIL' will have to run the table. If the Preds and the Blues go to OT and the Preds win the Oilers need wins in all four games they play.

Hmm, I think the Preds could very well lose 3 out of 4 (against Blues, Avs, one against Hawks). Wouldn't that be something? The Oil wouldn't even have to win 2 games to get in (one win + one tie)...

Personally

I'm just looking at it from the perspective that if the Oil win all four of their remaining games, and have to win in Stl in reg, then they'll get in because even a potential 3 point game in Nsh between the Blues and Preds couldn't damn us..

Can they keep it going for four more? How tired with the Blues be on Tues? They'll be playing their 4th in 6 nights. Can the Oilers beat the Stars in Dallas even with Tugnutt in net?

nice of the hawks to play adam munro in net today. does sutter not realize that his team will have a huge impact on the playoff race?

it's already 1-0 and the hawks are making a parade to the penalty box throughout the first period

Munro is really good! 8 versus Minni and 3 so far

It looks like NAS is the team to catch. They have 2 against CHI which should be easy predictable wins, then we have to hope that STL and COL still care enough to play them tough. I don't think they can win both, but we should expect them to win one.

For whatever reason, I guess he just doesn't like us very much.

Gotta do this themselves, Go Oilers!

I think he's too worried about his run at Ovechkin

yeah sutter doesnt exactly have a love in with edmonton, is anybody at all surprised that he started some kid in net?? i dont really expect to get any help at all from chicago with nashville either, basically i think edmonton has to run the table and win the next 4 or we wont get in..... nasville will lose at least once (either st. louis or colorado) so that means we need to get at least 7 point, so either 3-0-1 or 4-0..... that would give us one point more than nashville...... sadly, i dont like the chance of us winning the next 4 though

The Oil have had great years, good years and forgettable years but at least we have never been reduced to hiring a Sutter.

Actually, the Hawks are playing really well in this game. Fast, tenacious, really moving the puck well, especially on the PP. Not sure if it's b/c the fat cats on Blues can't handle 2 games on 2 nights, but the score is really flattering StL. IMO, the Hawks got shafted in the 1st period when the ref gave the Blues something like 4 straight mins of 5-3 PP on some iffy calls and the Blues got 3 straight 2-men adv PP goals in that span.

If CHI can play this way against NSH, the Preds will have their hands full.

Notice how the only people bitter with Edmonton are associated with Calgary.

Thats why I love being an Oilers fan.

I guess our chances of leapfrogging St. Louis aren't that good. It's going to come down to Nashville for that 8th spot.

I'm still not ready to quit on 7th

if the Oilers can win out in reg then we could look towards Thurs when the Blues visit Det or even next Sat when they play the Preds.

I'd rather the Oilers tanked it early instead of this blaze to 8th to play...Detriot.

I am all out hoping for 7th and SJ

The way the Hawks composed themselves after blowing the game in the first 15 minutes was very promising though.

If they play like that against Nashville (the good 3/4 of the game ), they certainly have a chance to win one or both of the games.

Yep.
A total of 10:58 on the PP in the first.
A couple of the 5 on 3 calls were marginal.
The last one was pure frustration from the Hawks.

I was thinking the same thing.

your right, to be honest if we got San Jose I'd expect the Oilers to go into the second round. They may have Nabakov but we have Belief ! That should be worth something

In any case we'd then have to face Detroit in round 2 I suppose the road to the Stanley Cup goes through the Joe Louis Arena!
