How young was Michel Briere? The only number retired by the Pens prior to Mario. I think he was just a kid when he died.

He died following his rookie season in the NHL. That would make him 20 or 21, depending on when his birthday was.

Older Players

well at a glance i can see several names that you missed on your older players side
bill chadwick (referee) is 91
jean bourcier is 96 (oldest confirmed living NHLer)
al suomi is 94
lou holmes is 96
john o'flaherty is 90
red horner when he died was 97 (oldest player ever)
theres a few more that played for the americans.
also not that it matter but the youngest player to play in the NHL was 16 at the time his name is bep guidolin.
