I reckon the Smurf team was the best Ranger team - dare I say ever!

If you want to talk about best Rangers teams to not win the cup, I go with 71/72, or possibly 91/92.

I don't agree. That 94' team was loaded with talent. You've got two definite HOF'ers (Mess & Leetch), a cusp HOF'er (Anderson) and a bunch of other guys who will go down as great players (Richter, Graves, Larmer and Lowe). Add to that guys like Zubov, Kovalev, and Boom and you've got a pretty formidable group of players.

While the smurf team had some nice players no one from that group will every be in the HOF. Heck, no one from that group will ever have their number retired by the Rangers. It was a fun team to watch but hardly a powerhouse. I sooner agree with Thordic that I would rank both the 91/92 team and the 71/72 team over the smurfs. Come to think of it I would probably rank the 74' and the 79' teams ahead of the smurf team.

71/72 was a great team. Too bad for us that Bobby Orr was playing for the Bruins.
